So if since what hoyainspirit says is true, why is it not more commonplace to see well performing student-athletes not count against their recruited list? Shouldn't we be able to get a couple of basketball players off the counter?
"Bradley remains on the roster. He qualifies for aid without counting against the scholarship limit because of his unique circumstances β he lived at the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home in Chattanooga for seven years"
Jon Wallace is, Jon Wallace is someone that I trust. I trust him with the game, I trust him with the ball in his hands, I trust Jon Wallace. I want people like him around me. That is much more important than the type of basketball player he is. It has turned out that because of the type of person he is, heβs turned into a damn good basketball player.

At the risk of sounding like a Calhoun supporter, I would like to say that those that criticized the guy before having any facts look a little silly now. Being that this guy will not have to absorb the costs, does this change those poster's perception about him being a scumbag or that III would never do such a thing?

My main issue isn't with Uconn, it is with this being a ridiculously stupid rule. You penalize a team by taking away scholarships and then give one right back because your rules are dumb. Well played NCAA!

Absolutely agree. My main issue was simply that you cant blame a coach for finding a loophole, that the ncaa created, and using it to improve his roster. In fact, Id argue that you want a coach to do that!

Silly?
Do all the poor lil orphans get free rides to UConn?
The only reason that Bradley has suddenly considered for meritorious financial aid is so that he can play basketball at UConn. If he were to quit the team and the aid money continues to cover him in full until his graduation, then I'd believe this is on the up and up. It's not.

Ding Ding!!!
We calmly grabbed our free beers and sauntered out. To add to the fun, we made T shirts that read "thanks for the memories... of kicking your AS#!" on the back along with a picture of a hand crushing an orange which we calmly unveiled in the final few minutes so the thousands of Cuse fans sitting behind us could enjoy. May have been the perfect day.--DaymondMyles

So you're saying that all these D1 hoops players going to these excellent schools would have been attending those schools even without their supreme basketball skills???...No you say???...so it is all about the basketball. Are you really surprised about this?

Doesn't Bubble Boy have another boil to lance? Or another extended time off from speaking to media which ends about 30 seconds into the time "away"? Congrats on Drummond and prospering while supposedly being punished for violating NCAA rules (which are a joke) but really don't need a lesson on ethics from you or anyone else.

And that's why they get athletic scholarships.
Bradley was getting one of these prized, limited in number athletic scholarship, which can be rule be rewarded based on his abilities as an athlete.
Now he's getting financial aid apparently intended for those with financial need issues and by rule, should not have his ability to play basketball as a reason for him receiving it. This type of aide is not limited in number being able to be given.
I know you went to UConn, but even a UConn grad should be able to figure out why his situation is cheating when an athlete receiving athletic financial aid is not.
Of course, this isn't as bad as "Stanley Robinson" taking online classes to get eligible or Calhoun paying off Rudy Gay's coach or any one of a number of things.
"The ball should move, bodies should move. You talk about being an undisciplined, unselfish group. That's what you do. If the ball's sticking, great defensive teams are going to load up. If you don't move the ball and [be] unselfish, it's gonna be long nights, so you better learn to move the ball, share, and play with a sense of urgency on every possession. Our teams will always be unselfish, our teams will always be physical, and our teams will always do our best to defend."

Yall sound silly. Just sitting back on an imaginary throne. First it was about Calhoun taking the kid's schollie and him having to foot his own bill. Turns out that wasnt the case, so the argument is something different. OK. He is the devil. Shame on him for taking advantage of a loophole to increase his team's chances of winning. I would never support a coach seeking to improve his team within the confines of the ncaa rules (at least this time).

What's the big fuss about? AD was a kid that no one on this forum thought that we really had a chance to see in a hoya jersey. In fact everyone said that if he went to college it was gonna be UCONN. Now that he some how gets into UCONN everyone is losing there minds. Come on fellas, let this one go and put our energy into praising KA. If it is dirty, then it wont work out for them.............................

This. Calhoun and the incoming AD just pulled a legal fast one on the NCAA. I give them their props.

Who Dat! True Dat! Oh please let me be, I have to be, schizophrenic me!
I fail to see what the group home has to do with anything. If this was Lil' Romeo we were talking about, and he got a 3.0, thus qualifying for academic aid, it would be the same.
""He has to control the paint. It's not his choice, it's his responsibility, it's his duty, it's his obligation." Bill Walton on Roy Hibbert.

Wow that's a terrible loop hole. That's just begging for teams to pay extra players to play for them. We offered him a scholarship, he just turned it down. Oh well.

How come nobody knows the rules? How can you have a rule system that is so blurry that virtually everybody thinks something is prohibited, it takes a school a half semester to figure the issue out and then the outcome is opposite of what people think? If this is not proof that the system is broke, nothing is.
