Although some might evolve into 2 guards, at least on paper, this years point guard crop looks to be about as strong as I ever remember. Off the top of my head, and in no particular order, there are these guys:
Tyreke Evans Ty Lawson Johnny Flynn Stephon Curry (forget his first name) Rubio -- kid from Spain everyone raves about
Those are just the more elite of the elite, and there's at least one more that I am forgetting, I'm pretty sure. I counted 6 last night off the top of my head.
On a somewhat related note, who the hell is Nick Calathes kidding in testing the NBA waters with that class of point guards coming out this year? Hell, Scottie Reynolds is a couple of pegs down from those guys.

I don't know if I consider Evans a PG. I think he ends up as a SG who handles a lot, but honestly, he's the absolute class of that group long term as long as he's a hard worker.
He's a jump shot away from being devastating.
Flynn's next. After that, I don't think its that strong a PG class.

i think this year's point guart crop might be the worst in recent memory which is why players such as Flynn are coming out. Compare this to last year for instance where you had Westbrook, Rose, Augustine, Bayless..

Compare this to last year for instance where you had Westbrook, Rose, Augustine, Bayless.. I was never all that big on Augustine. Certainly Rose was a stud. I don't know much about Bayless. As for Flynn, I hate Cuse as much as the next guy, but I still think he's a stud. As a class though, I certainly wouldn't consider it weak by any stretch. I admit that I am giving Rubio 2nd hand credit. I probably saw him in an international game sometime or two, but don't remember. But given what all the talking heads are saying, I am giving him "elite" status. We might have to wait and see. I think the question mark could be Curry. He can certainly shoot the rock. That isn't traditionally the point guard's job. In college he had the ball in his hands, though he's probably more of a shooting guard. The problem is that I think he would have trouble handling most of the twos in the NBA on defense.

I saw Rubio at the Olympics, and I know he's young, but can't see why all the fuss. Rudy Fernandez was a vastly superior player -- maybe I'm just not adjusting enough for age, but Rubio strikes as a guy who is what he is now. Awesome for his age, but not likely to get better.

It's funny you would say it that way, because that is pretty much what little I remember. I honestly don't remember what he looked like or any particular play, but I do remember the name and even then, the hype. At the time I wasn't really paying much attention, but looking back, I am certainly underwhelmed. But to be fair, I paid so little attention and it was long enough ago that I am giving the "suits" the benefit of the doubt, and assuming that they must know something.

Well, Rubio falls into one of the archetypes of overrated players to my mind: Tall PGs. He's only 6'5" or so, so he's not in the "next Magic Johnson" group, but reality is that coaches are obsessed with tall PGs that they often forget they need to be PGs.

I believe that Ty Lawson will have an immediate impact with the right team. Believe that he is better prepared to be a lead guard at the present than the rest. Agree, all the above mentioned will be good pros. It is a possibility that John Wall who meets the age requirement could enter. If so, would be an outstanding PG.

wow, nashville, I didn't know Wall was already old enough. I know everyone talks about him like a one and doner, but I didn't know he could go straight to the pros. Personally, I think he should spend a season or two here in Gainesville. If we could match up Kenny Boynton and John Wall together -- especially if Nick Calathes returns, we would have some ball handling skills to make other teams go berzerk.
