This has happened a few times, though mainly due to rioting in World Cup qualifiers.
One of the most horrifically frightening books is Fever Pitch, where Nick Hornby says that, really, racism in English soccer isn't nearly as bad as what it used to be.

yea unfortunately this has happened many times before particularly in Italy....they have had lockouts like this before as well...pretty sad
