Tomorrow morning at 11:30am Obama will give a talk in gaston hall about the economy. Students have to enter into a lottery to see who will get tickets.

I think we can all agree that this is Obama's best week in office. First, the Seals got the hostage back safely. Now, he's going to speak at Georgetown.

Aaaaand in keeping with its usual stellar track record, Georgetown has managed to set up a "lottery" website that does not function as a lottery. It just says "Sold Out" and it's impossible to register. Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

I refreshed well over 100 times and eventually got through. Other friends are still getting the sold out message. Good work, Georgetown.

Deadline has been extended to 5, which was a lifesaver for me because I was up in the air when the announcement came out and it was iffy over whether or not I would get back to my apartment by 3.
They seem to have also fixed the bugs since I managed to register on my first try

First event I went to at GTown was then-President Clinton in Gaston Hall about the second week or so of my freshman year. I found out about it when I passed a floormate walking up the Village C ramp who had just read the notice in his email.
This was sort of the ultimate first-come, first-served policy: we ran over to Leavey where the tickets would be handed out an hour or so later (from that concierge desk by the bookstore entrance). We ended up in line in the hallway by the radio station, but got tickets.
Not sure if that policy (wouldn't it suck to live in LXR when they made an announcement like that?) is better or worse than the "adventures in 1990s computer technology" way GU does it now.
I can't remember for sure what the topic of Clinton's speech was, incidentally. It was a foreign policy speech, and I want to say the point was that he was deferring a decision on missile defense to his successor. Hey, that's relevant again!

I cannot imagine what the odds of getting a spot for this speech are: at least half of the undergraduate population (very conservative, assuming people do not check email frequently on a travel day), plus whichever other Georgetown population goes into this, for only several hundred seats after media etc are taken care of. All of the luck in the world probably wouldn't bring me a seat

I'll be listening on XM radio online, assuming it's on POTUS.

Dear goodness let us PLEASE not be like Notre Dame; we are a Jesuit institution of higher learning that promotes dialogue and preaches tolerance. And, really, this is an ECONOMIC speech. Anyway, WHY DID I HAVE TO GRADUATE? I would give anything to be on campus right now.

In a good move by the university, an email this morning says they will broadcast live on the gtown cable and are trying to stream on the internet through the university network. This is in addition to CNN streaming it and the expectation that other networks will pick it up.

I'm a pro-choice libertarian, but I do enjoy seeing the shoe on the other foot and seeing a Dem actually gripe that someone is going to protest the presence of the president on campus on principled grounds, after 8 years of the vitriol that was spewed all around President Bush everywhere he went.

My thing is that regardless of who is protesting, I think that the vast vast majority of the time, it is utterly useless and looks childish. In this specific instance, I happen to loathe the pro-life movement (despite being pro-life myself), so I especially wish that they would shut up for a day. But they have a right to look as ignorant and small as the Dems have over the last 8 years.
