www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/hssports/longterm/allmets/winter09/basketballboys/index.htmlA couple thoughts: Glad to see Starks make 2nd team All-Met. Quinn Cook got a raw deal with 3rd team All-Met. He out played Kendall Marshall and Eric Green all year. Eric Green making first team All-Met is a crime. Marshall or Cook should have made it over him. Green's team was around .500 this season. Pitt is doing a good job of recruiting in our backyard. It seems Rivals rankings, which college is recuiting you, and what year you are plays too heavily into the rankings.

I suppose by having some big name recruits on the all-met is perceived as a way for local hoops to attain national prestige.

yeah whats with all the pitt commits? I know it's a solid program, but that friggin' school is a dump Pitt has a nice new arena. It is located in a city. It is only a 4 hour drive from our area. A lot of kids want to move away for College just like many of us did, and Pitt being only 4 hours away and having a good Basketball program is appealing. Those a just a couple reasons.

it's also about relationships. pitt has developed a good rep in the local area. pitt maybe further away but it's still Big East.

Nice to see Jamal get first team. According to those rankings he was more of an impact player than Starks this season at HS which is saying a lot because Markel is a game changer.....

Surprisingly not true in New Jersey, a very lightly recruited PG Kenneth Ortiz 5'11" was named the Star Ledger (NJ.com) Player of the Year. Truly the best and most valuable player, but at best, will be playing at Buffalo next season if he qualifies.

A lot of kids want to move away for College just like many of us did, and Pitt being only 4 hours away That 4 hours is by car. If you measure by modernity, coolness or culture, Pitt is 700 years away from DC.

well quinn cook should follow in the footsteps of adrian dantley and chris wright Many players have made three All-Met teams. Dantley and Wright made three First Team All-Met. Cook is third team this year -- so unless he made it last year, he won't be in that club. Althought it is really impressive that he's the only sophomore on the squads at all this year.

Let's hope he follows in Chris Wright's footsteps to GU instead of Dantley's to Notre Dame.

If we're going to have some guys on our roster who might not be as highly recruited as others, ideally those players would:
a. have some size or be out and out bigs b. have upside c. be local d. qualified e. be winners at previous levels f. coachable
Is it just me or does Jamal O. fit that to a T? I realize he's not got real "big" size -- he's more DJ Owens from the size category and the skills aren't great for the wing yet, but I bet he could play with the big guys as he transitions.
