Thanks enj...
Here is what I found out from Scouts:
GOKHAN SIRIN
Sirin is a 6-9, 205 pound center who plays for St. Mary's Ryken High... Originally from Istanbul, Turkey... Sirin needs to put on weight for added strength, but is a prototypical European big man... Intelligent player who shoots well, with range, and handles the ball well... Will get pushed around inside but added beef will improve that aspect... Providence and VCU are watching.

"Will get pushed around inside." Yeah, we need some more of that.

"Intelligent player who shoots well, with range, and handles the ball well." Things that the Princeton offense does need.

I am conflicted by this guy. He could be more of the same but he also could run the offense correctly? Obviously, he will not bring the muscle we are missing, but if he is a longer and a more skilled version of Nikita, I like it.

Do we really need this? I personally don't think we should be going after anyone in the 09 class besides LW or Vee Sanford. If this kid "will get pushed around inside," then he's probably not going to be able to help for next year. And if we're talking about a guy who is going to help out in the future, wouldn't it be better to save the schollie for 2010 which everyone seems to agree is the better year? We already have developmental players in Omar and Nikita. I'm not sure we need another one just yet.

On the other hand, I like that we are covering our bases and talking to kids besides Vee and LW. If we can nab Vee, LW, and either Olasawere(walk on) or Sirin(schollie), we're lookin mighty good. And look, even if we can only add Lubick and Starks in 2010 that's still a good class that fills the positions we will still need. At that point henry should take over the center role but we need a replacement for Dajuan both in terms of small forward and power forward.

Who needs defense? We'll shoot threes all day! That's definitely what our current recruiting is telling me.

Jon was not a great defender, but was a great player for our system that helped us win games. I'm not saying sign the kid up based on that blurb, but it does seem like he might potentially be a good fit.

Adlai - Jon getting beaten on D was something we were able to live with because we happened to have a 7'2" space eater in the middle - I think gtowndynasty asks the better question, and that is whether the defense we play fits the players we recruit offensively...
I guess that sounds too extreme... What I mean to say is that someone who fits the Gtown mold offensively might struggle with how we play defense...

Considering JT3 shows a willingness to play various defenses in a game, I am not sure I agree there is a "Georgetown way" to play defense anymore. For Jt3, I think our offensive approach is actually much more significant to our identity or overall team philosophy. So I actually approach this from the opposite point of view. A good defensive player could be an absolute disaster for our offense - Rivers comes to mind. It was 4 on 5 when he was in the game on offense. Either way this guy is enough of a risk, given our current roster, I would be fine if we passed on him.

Defense is a major consideration. That said, if he fills one element of a player we're looking for, it then becomes a question of how much that will cost us on the other end and what adjustments could be made to facilitate his limitations. Jon was a perfect example of when the benefits outweigh the costs whereas Rivers' limits on offense generally went the other way. All I was really trying to get at is that if he could be a 6'9" point forward of sorts, then he might be worth considering, especially given our offensive system.

Adlai I agree 100% a guy like that is worth considering and it's a player type I personally love... I would just feel more comfortable with Nikita and Sirin type players in a traditional 2-1-2 or 1-3-1 like Beilein plays...

Get them in a defense that covers their lack of quickness by emphasizing their length. And I think JT3 started to do this a lot more w/ Nikita near the end of the season. We were playing a lot more zone when he was in (and I think when Henry was in) so that their lack of footspeed was covered and their length was utilized.

I think this is fine if we get Williams or another higher ranked PF/C, if not I am worried by this recruit.
We don't need a taller, skinnier Nikita with worse rebounding seeing serious minutes at the 4 anytime soon.
