dave leito resigned from UVA. Tristan Spurlock- was interested in Hoyas- might start looking elsewhere. he sounds undecided right now. still, i do not see him as a fit for our needs.
FWIW the other recruit Walker is looking elsewhere.

I don't think so.
Spurlock doesn't really fit our needs right, but he's a good player.
On the Leitao side, I feel bad for the guy, but somewhat vindicated in my opinion. I know there was a lot of handwringing about him recruiting because he's precieved as a strong recruiter, but I was never worried in the long run because he doesn't seem like that great a coach.
Eventually, you've got to win. And even more so when you get a brand new stadium.

UVA ate that 2 mill. Wow that's alot for a coach with continuous losing teams. Word is Favors signing saved Hewitt's job at Tech. Gotta build off that young dude.

no bigs. evans is 5'11 PG who plays with a chip on his shoulder. spurlock is a wing.

Felton was set up to fail. Harrick put them on probation then they gave the brotha a knife and sent him to a gun fight.

If we were to pursue Spurlock now, would it perhaps come at the expense of Roscoe or Olseware? Given the addition of Hollis plus the (hopeful) return of everyone in the frontcourt, it seems like we'd have a glut of frontcourt talent with limited minutes to be distributed in 09-10. Given my lack of knowledge about Spurlock, I'd defer to graeagle and others to render an opinion on which course is better - Spurlock or Roscoe/other '10 wing.

On the flip side, it might be nice for DaJuan to have someone challenging him for minutes.

i just do not think Spurlock has the skill set for what we need immediately: rebounding and ball handling. So his benefit next year would be minimal unless he proved to be a great scorer at the wing--capable of driving/scoring without turning it over. I do not believe he would be that kind of player as a freshman. And yes i do think guys like roscoe/barton/odom are better. So really their is minimal gain from GTOWN's persepctive.
Just speculating but it sounds like this kind of blindsided both kids. They will/should take their time and find the best fit for them. i doubt they will be able to go to another ACC school. Actually the Evans kid--i have never seen but heard- is a fighter- plays with chip on shoulder type guard. 5'11. he might have more use that spurlock just b/c he can give Chris a blow for 5-6 minutes as the primary ball handler. but it sounds like things are looking good with Vee.

I personally like Tristan. He's a nice, humble, intelligent kid, who I think would be an asset, but he is an ACC "type" player. Wiry, stronger than he looks, but a perimeter dude. A legit 6'7 with length. His appeal is that he is multi-skilled and can play the two, three and four (in the ACC). Two or three in the BE. Really woulda helped this year with depth. Unsure if GU will be in pursuit this time. It did come down to Hoyas and UVa before though. Offensive skill set is higher than both Roscoe and Jamal. Tristan is a good, but not great athlete. Both Jamal and Roscoe are superior athletes and have more upside. Spurlock is more polished right now. in comparison to a similar sized kid like Hollis; Hollis has a better shot, but Spurlock I think has more ability to mix it up, if necessary. I'm a bird in the hand type guy, so take from that what you will. Iow, if Spurlock wants to come then I'd take him, but that's just me. I take talent and worry about pt later.

A 6'7" SG? I'd be on that in a second. The matchup problems could be insane, and the way our offense works, the difference b/t a 2, 3, and 4 is not great. So he could switch up on D to pick up bigger guys. He could shoot over most 2 guards. And maybe he could develop some of the bigger game as well.

When I saw him with Boo he guarded posts alot because of his lenght and lower body strength. He has a strong base; upperbody not so much. Don't see him guarding 4's in the BE.

Don't remember if he had an offer the first time around. I'm thinking he didn't.
