Kawhi Leonard of No. 21 Martin Luther King (Riverside, Calif.), may not have led his team in scoring but his superior all-around game was pivotal, earning him player of the week honors. Leonard, a 6-foot-7 senior forward produced a monster game with 12 points, 20 rebounds, six blocks and three steals as MLK pounded previous-No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 71-56, in the CIF-Southern Section, Division I-AA final. Leonard, undecided on college, is considering Pac-10 schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, USC and UCLA.
Can GU get in?

No disrespect id but is there any reason other than this monster game that GU should get in? Do we know anything else about him? He got 20 rebounds in one game vs. one of the premiere programs in America. That's more than any of our guys get in a month.

If five of the top six Pac 10 schools are interested (assuming that to be true), chances are the kid can play.
King's shellacking of Mater Dei was a real shocker.

At this point, I'll take anyone who can box out and rebound.

OJ Mayo could play and ended up in the Pac-10 but we didn't want him, did we? I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this kid play, knows anything about his grades, heard anything about his character? There's a lot to consider when looking at these kids...see Jelan Kendrick & Tahj Tate. Their teams are playing each other in the state semis this Friday MINUS each of them. Turns out they both QUIT their teams. I won't get into their situations further but you get the idea.... No team with OJ Mayo on it would ever go to the NIT.

Agreed, at least he liked shooting (to a fault)! No team with OJ Mayo gets called for a shot-clock violation. How many of those did we have this year?

Of course there are many factors that go into determining whether we have interest in a kid. All I said was that if five of the best six Pac 10 schools are really recruiting this kid, he probably has some talent. Period. I never suggested we pursue him. I don't know anything about him. But there's also no reason to rule him out based solely upon what appear to be his court skills. Very interesting story on Tate and Kendrick. I won't jump to any conclusions, because "quit the team" could mean a number of things (see Hollis Thompson). However, if our interest in these kids has ceased, that would be telling. Is that the case?

BTW, Rivals says Kawhi Leonard signed an LOI with San Diego St. back in the Fall.

Instead of attacking other posters and their opinions, why don't you provide us with the insight on why they quit their teams?

Rooter - I wasn't questioning his talent. My point was that you can't look at one monster game or even a monster season these days. Some of these kids are ticking time bombs. I simply wanted to know what else we knew about him. By the way, the Kendrick & Tate situations are not good; hence, the reason I mentioned it. I live in Ga. and know what the deal is with them but there's no reason to put it out on the board. Royski - We stink up the joint this season and now all of a sudden players like OJ " Edited you, Pay Me" Mayo are ok for this program? Oh yeah. How does one get 4k plus posts on this board. Tell em PR. Chime in on every thread with "agreed", without ever having anything insightful to add. I'm saying you don't have to immediately run away from every "bad kid" that you see when your recruiting players. Pops never did that, a coach can be a teacher and a leader of men, not just a basketball winner. That's part of the job. Obviously there are some kids you don't want with some issues, but I don't think it has to be a categorical "no" as is so often preached as JTIII's approach on this board. Oh, and I think we probably would've won a national title with Mayo. A Wallace, Mayo, Freeman, Summers, Hibbert team with Sapp, and Ewing Jr. and Rivers and Macklin and Crawford and Chris Wright by the end would've never had a problem with Davidson because we have the ONLY defensive stopper capable of locking him down. Then I think we beat Wisconsin. Then whatever you think happens with Kansas happens, but I think we've got a hell of a shot. I think we probably take it all. So that's an example where you really have to look into what the kid's problems are.

Man ID, I finally saw this game last night on FSN West, and this guy would've been a STEAL! Talk about a Jeff Green-like player. He dominated the entire game and until late in game had single digits in scoring column--but he DOMINATED the game. Will be a steal for San Diego State and he's exactly the type of kid who Hoyas should be after--he handled/passed well but was a TEAM guy who didn't wait for things to happen-he made them happen. Variety of ways too--he handled pretty well, had good passes, blocked shots, boarded like a beast, defended, and led his team which had a few other players who were decent-but nowhere near as good as Mater Dei's team--well minus Wear STIFFS. Man do they suck. The Wear Stiffs are Mickey Ds heading for UNC. How could they suck? ;D
