do hoya fans see our staff as being proactive, or reactive when it comes to recruiting? i know losing out on riley hurts and they are looking to replace him when most quality bigs are off the board. but we lost out on tyler, then we got starks. we were strong with josh, but then lost out to him, but getting nate. not sure where we stand with roscoe smith but if he wanted to be a hoya he would prob declared by now. we need a stud from the 2010 class. the class of 2011 is starting to develop, just hope the staff is out there showing love.

Interesting question, however I wouldn't look too far into the fact that we're going after players for the '09 class.....we need depth...Roscoe Smith is going to take his time why do you think that he would have committed by now? he has 2 years before graduating. If we have a shot at getting such a talented guy as Williams why wouldn't we go after him? He is the type of player we need to content NEXT year. Also despite DaJuan and Greg saying they will return isn't guaranteed until this spring. We have a bunch of scholarships available...why not use one or two? There will be plenty of ships for 10 and 11.....and our classes in those years obviously aren't set and will helped by the on court performance of this year and next year. We are definitely being PROACTIVE and is a testament to the staff addressing needs for NEXT year where if everyone returns and we land some more depth or an impact guy like Williams...well watch out now

I think the staff is clearly proactive, but can be forced to be reactive by circumstances (see Riley and Braswell). I'm not in the know on this like some of our recruiting experts, but I think it is clear that we didn't jump in on Starks and Lubick after missing out on Thornton and Hairston. We were clearly on all of those guys simultaneously.

Isn't all recruiting necessarily both? I mean, you're never sure that you're going to get any individual player, so you have to be covering yourself with additional targets. So in a way, that's proactive, but in a way it's reactive if you miss out on the top target. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question.

I think proactive in that based on your assessment above. Contigency plans are very important in college basketball.

IMO you have to be proactive, but be ready for anything. As for your Roscoe's status, take a look at how many top 09 players are left unsigned. Some have just verballed, but cannot sign until the coming signing period. Roscoe has plenty of time to explore his options.

i agree you have to have a bit of both to be successful. but i just get the feeling the kids we want, the kids we focus on, are stating to get away. i know momentum is tough to hang onto, but my sense is we are getting complacent. hope i am wrong.
