Yeah, bubble at best, and it would be a fair result if we didnt make it. 19-13,10-11 isnt all that special when your only big win since the middle of January is Nova. Even ND crushed L'ville. You realize that beating Nova AT Nova is a huge win, right? They're currently 22-5, ranked #10/#12 in the rankings and 10th in the RPI. Is that really that much worse than a win at home over a team that's 21-5 and the #6/#6 team in the rankings and #11 team in the RPI? Meh, and, ND beat Lville. And MD beat UNC. Those teams are hardly tourney worthy because they woke up one day and played a really good game. i would think the same is true with us. If we beat Nova, id be happy, but the 5 game winning streak people are talking about would include DePaul, SJU, probably SJU again, maybe WVU. In the last 6 weeks, we would have beaten those teams, and USF and Rutgers. i hardly think that is impressive. I think 6 gets us in, but 5 games isnt enough. Just my opinion.

This is the same group. Are they playing as well? No. Are they the same group? yes. They played the same way against Memphis as they have played these last three games, the only difference is Memphis doesn't have the expierence to capitalize on our inexpierenced mistakes. Its funny that you bring up Memphis... because I think that Memphis is a team that we could compare ours to (minus the total goon factor). The Tigers are young, talented, and were pretty highly thought of at the beginning of the season. I know the tigers are playing vastly inferior opponents, but they are *gasp* beating them consistently. Unlike our underclassmen, the tigers underclassmen seem to "get it" after struggling early in the year against most of their quality opponents. Granted, I don't think they are nearly as good as their ranking right now, but they are solidly in the tournament (and deserve to be) even if they somehow lose in their conference tournament. The Memphis team that is playing right now would likely destroy us as we are playing right now. And obviously the statement that this is a different team wasn't meant to be taken literally (although Bryon Jansen is hurt now... ). Because they aren't playing anywhere near as well, they seem like an entirely different squad. When Jesse Sapp was playing like crap earlier in the year, we were able to overcome it, largely because Monroe was asserting himself and we were hitting free throws. The win over UConn was marked by those two things- hitting 17-18 free throws in the second half, and Monroe dominating Hasheem Thabeet. When someone gets through to Monroe that he can be the best player on the floor if he would just assert himself, and we get back to be a fundamentally sound team that can, you know, hit important free throws, THATS when we will deserve to be in the coversation (again) with UConn, and, to a lesser degree, Memphis.

This is a tough game and a tough matchup. Everyone is mentioning Reynolds, but nobody mentions the absolutely sensational year that Dante Cunningham has had, or the great improvement shown by Corey Fisher, or the shooting stroke of Corey (you know, the other Corey), or the toughness of Dwayne Anderson. Nova's deep, talented, they have guys that get in the lane off the dribble, shooters, an elite big and elite guard play. With the way we've played defense this season. I don't see how we can stop them All true, and Wright will make sure they're ready -- beating Depaul by a bucket is a wake-up call. Hoyas have absolutely no shot unless Summers snaps out of it. I like him but current evidence is not encouraging.

Villanova is an awful matchup for us. They pressure the ball; we turn it over. Our best player is young and not especially strong; Dante Cunningham is experienced, strong and able to hang with him in perimeter situations.
And it's on the road.

On another point, I think the Memphis comp is a bit off. That team actually has quite bit of experience. Tyreke Evans only had to fit in, but he's surrounded with Juniors and Seniors -- Taggart, Dozier, Anderson, Mack, Kemp, etc.

Scottie is having a great year, as well as the step up of Dante it will be tough. We just don't have the D to hang with these two. Oh well, off to the HHC bus to my nose bleed seats. We give much better seats to our visitors than they do.

Looked like Vaughn got it off just at the buzzer - of course the 50-50 call goes against the good guys...

Love Greg, but he is definitely not "equally dangerous with both hands."

Must protect the ball. Too many turnovers. V is shooting and missing. We throw the ball away. Must protect the ball.
