A father of a friend of mine is a big time Hoya fan and analyzes tapes of the games. By his un-official count 32 missed layups in the past 4 games. Lack of focus? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?? I need to go back hiding under my desk waiting for next year... ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

I can believe. I was amazed the last few years how many hard shots we've made. So much so I used to think we practiced layups high off the glass, etc.
Those tough shots aren't dropping this year -- even by people who made them last year (Austin, Jessie).

I bet a lot of them were on a fast break as well (that is if we hadn't turned it over on the break by then).

I wanna say we missed 32 layups in 3 games. Unfortunately, your friends father might be giving us the benefit of the doubt. That was the first statistic at the top of the recap section of hoya saxa and I recall being amazed by seeing 10, 10 and then 12 from the game Sat. Anybody else remember seeing those numbers? I apologize if I am mis-remembering ;-)

I actually made this exact point to my wife while watching the Cincy game. This team just cannot finish around the basket. CW and Monroe are the main culprits. Monroe I think is just not physically strong enough as a freshman to finish and he can only use the left hand. CW is usually out of control by the time he makes it to the rim so great job getting there, but the body control needs work.
It is a shame because the number of "and 1s" that we have missed is startling and has cost us games.

I counted 45 missed layups in the past four games.
But we also missed 20 total layups in our wins against UConn and Cuse.

I think earlier in the season Monroe was drawing the foul call on his misses. Now he is getting bodied with no call.

Monroe's free throws from Hoya Prospectus data:
1st 11 games - 50 for 69 Last 10 games - 28 for 44
He played more minutes per game in the last 10, so the minutes in the splits are about even.

We certainly can't buy a call these days. That isn't meant to be a shot at officiating, but it's one of the key differences between our offense at the beginning of the season and now. It's easy to put up guady offensive numbers when you are going to line every other time down the floor. Now we're lucky to hit the bonus, let alone the double bonus in a half.

I was at the Seton Hall game and saw a similar lack of concentration [carelessness] on display. We regularly stepped out of bounds, made bounce passes along the baseline that bounced out of bounds or caught a pass while standing on the out of bounds line. If you give the ball up before taking a shot your shooting percentage needs to be that much higher to have a chance to win. The box score shows 16 turnovers (Summers - 6) but it seemed like far more than that, particularly when they had only 9. The '85 Nova team aside, that's a tall order to overcome double digit turnovers with ever escalating shooting percentages. Value the ball!

Officials are more likely to blow a whistle if a team is in an offensive flow than if they're randomly chucking bricks, regardless of level of contact.
