This is truly a remarkable and historic day for our amazing country. Not one I ever thought I would see in my lifetime. Regardless of our individual politics, I hope we can all recognize the magnitude of this day and pull together in support of our nation.
As a University whose colors were chosen to be Blue and Gray to help heal our nation's division after our Civil War, and who hired the first African-American head coach of a major D1 University who went on to win the first Basketball National Championship for an African American Head Coach and for GU, this day is particularly relevant to the Georgetown community -- and especially to fans of Georgetown basketball.
Congratulations to Barack and Michelle Obama and to the United States of America!

Talk about being on the wrong side of history, kc and vado, on this day of global thanksgiving and renewal...
I share Saxa's sentiments wholesale. May we find a new path for American leadership during the coming years.

Global thanksgiving and renewal......?
I'm all for celebrating the election of a new President, but let's not get carried away here.

To the extent that "thanksgiving" is a fancy way of saying, "We are all grateful to be Americans" and "renewal" means "We are hopeful for a bright future in American politics, moving away from the divisiveness of the last 20 years," I 100% agree. And I agree w/ SirSaxa. Anyone who can't feel a sense of pride in our country and at least HOPE for the future...well, I just don't know what would do it for you.
I guarantee that there were plenty of Republicans out there today. Maybe they/we are happy to see George go, but what occurred on the Mall today was NOT red or blue. It was American. And with not a single security problem, perfectly reasonable crown control, and good feelings all around, this country showed it can still throw a party.

Very nice in this period of renewal to see the disgraceful singing of Nana Hey Hey Goodbye to the American President. Let the era of good feeling and brotherhood begin.

Or maybe Jersey's statement was absurd hyperbole AND today marked an historic social milestone in American history. That could be the case too.

I despise W and think he was the worst president of my lifetime (and that goes back to HST), but I would never consider doing this.

I commented to one of my friends that Bush's term was over, Obama has won, and that we can move on without this nonsense. I received more than a few angry glares.

I got choked up several times during the inauguration exercises. I was thinking how much this meant to African-Americans all over the country and how they were saying that their young can now strive to do anything in this country.
