Paterno deserved that title anyhow. Something like 30 of Bowden's Ws came at Sanford or Samford or some such po-dunk school in South Carolina.

Yeah, actually a lot of the die hard college football fans think that Eddie Robinson deserves the recognition. I remember hearing Terry Bowden speak at the Fightin' Gator Touchdown Club a few years back and he touched on the subject. Apparently there is some stipulation that determines whether or not lower division wins count towards the coaches overall total. Because Bowden qualified for the recognition because of his win total at FSU, then his wins at Samford count towards his overall total. I remember being a little bit surprised when Terry said that his overall win totals at Auburn were enough that his wins from the very same Samford qualified him as well. But Eddie Robinson -- the Gramblings staple, who has sent more athletes to the NFL than any other coach -- doesn't qualify. I don't mind if you think it's necessary to have these types of distinctions, but if so then I think you have to be consistent, one way or another.
