www.examiner.com/x-2159-College-Basketball-Examiner~y2009m1d12-The-week-ahead-10-college-basketball-matchups-you-have-to-see-Jan-12Wednesday (#8) Syracuse at (#13) Georgetown, 7:30 pm, ESPN2 With conference losses to both Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, the Georgetown Hoyas need to pick up a big win to avoid having another rough week. After playing host to Syracuse in this one, they get a two day break before facing off against Duke on the road. The improved play of freshman Greg Monroe has been comforting for Hoyas fans, but they will need to step up and play an inspired game on their home court to avoid starting out 2-3 in the conference.
(#13) Georgetown at (#3) Duke, 1:30 pm, CBS You might expect to see this type of big time game in the Final Four or Elite Eight at the end of the season, but a handful of games into each team’s conference schedule? In the first game of a great CBS doubleheader, Duke will represent the ACC and Georgetown the Big East as two of the top teams in the nation collide on a national stage. Will Duke have a way to stop Greg Monroe on the inside? Will Georgetown be able to control Kyle Singler? Not the type of game you really expect to see at this point in the year, but it’s a dream matchup that we might just see again before the year is out.

Good to see that the Syracuse media are fair and balanced. From the Orange Basketball blog: www.syracuse.com/today/index.ssf/2009/01/big_east_season_starts_in_earn.htmlThe rivalry between Syracuse and Georgetown is legendary. In 79 meetings, SU holds a 43-36 edge. Syracuse has won eight out of the last ten games against Georgetown. In their last meeting at the Dome, Syracuse prevailed, 77-0.I mean, having been at that game, I can testify that it did sort of feel like that at times, but come on!

I was just going to post that one, and not just because he picked SU to win. I think it's fairly funny that he makes no mention whatsoever of Andy Rautins who prior to the Rutgers game was arguably the best player (clearly best scorer) on the squad. And there is little to no chance Mookie Jones takes off the warmup suit and sees the floor tonight. JB said early in the preseason that he wasn't strong enough and there is no way that he has gained sufficient strength to play against you all.

The lesson here is that collegehoopsnet is a hack site. Honestly, there are one or two good writers, but most of them do no homework and are on the "make a controversial list to generate hits" theory of web publishing.
