He's just being politically correct. he doesn't want maryland fans leaving burning couches outside the white house if he reveals his preference for us.

I repeat....politicians and political talking heads should never talk about sports.
Ever.
Period.
(Clinton being an Arkansas fan was inexcusable, but at least he showed up once to watch the Hoyas decimate 'Nova.)

The CityPaper had a really good article on the history of the half smoke last year, I'll see if I can find it.

When he catches a couple of Hoya games and the Twerps start to cry, he can always say it was a last-minute thing and it's easier/faster to get to The Booth than to College Park. He'll be a busy man.

When I caught his comments on Saturday I thought it was simply cool he didn't say one word about the Redskins or any other NFL teams. And no college football teams either. He's a hoops guy. He has a love for the White Sox and he does like football but he's a hoops junkie. And he wasn't pc about mentioning the Wizards or the Senators, he stuck with the Chicago teams. But boy it was cool to hear him mention Gtown even if Maryland was included in the sentence as well.
Hopefully though he'll check out a Caps game every once in awhile.

Very cool, and very PC answer, but what do you expect, he is a politician. Funny, I was planning on going to Ben's Chili Bowl sometime soon, since it is a DC landmark, and this gives me even more reason to go. If I were Barack, I would hate going somewhere like that with all the attention, but it seems like he wants to be a man of the people.
I do hope he checks out a Hoyas game at Verizon by the end of the season. I don't see why he wouldn't, since he's a hoops guy. Let's make sure someone from Hoya Blue is ready with a We Are Georgetown shirt for him if/when that happens. What does everyone think sizewize, L or XL? He's thin but kind of tall.

As MCI pointed out, Obama loves the White Sox. Obama has never ever backed away from being a White Sox fan and given that Chicago is filled with Cubs fans, that's not the PC or easy thing to do. Much kudos to the President elect. We White Sox fans stick out like a sore thumb in Chicago but we're also a very loyal bunch. I seem to recall a certain Cubs fan who suddenly became a Yankees fan when she decided to run for Senate.

Good point, and let's remember that Obama grew up in Hawaii, and only became a White Sox after spending time working in Chicago. Since he will be working in DC for at least the next 4 (and possibly/hopefully next 8) years, let's make sure that Obama becomes a diehard Hoyas fan during the time that he resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I am just picturing a poor unsuspecting Hoya Blue member running over to Obama with a t-shirt and 40 secrect service guys tackling him/her and destroying the shirt.

Obama represented a south side district in the state senate; obviously he had to be a White Sox fan. It also gives him something to talk about with Mayor Daley. If he was going to shamelessly bail on the White Sox when he started running for the Senate, he would have picked the Cardinals to attract downstate voters.
