I agree you should zone us at least some (and maybe most) of the time, but I understand why opposing coaches think zoning a team of shooters like Wright, Sapp, Freeman, Summers, and (now) Monroe is a bad idea.
The only other game I can think of where we played this well on the road is at Louisville in 2007.

What a performance. I'm so proud of these guys, especially the kids: Monroe, Wright, and Freeman.

Oh my goodness. I just read that we made eighteen consecutive free throws in the second half of our match with Uconn. I do remember that I had predicted when Mr. Macklin and Mr. Rivers left our beloved hilltop and Mr. Wright and Mr. Clark and Mr. Monroe were observed this summer in the league Kenner hitting many many free throws, that we, the Hoyas of Georgetown would become the free throw leaders of the Big East conference. Well, low and behold, and I have not seen the official stats, but i believe we are probably in first place in our league in that statistical category. Also if you look at the ESPN standings in the Big East as of this evening, we are in first place right now in our league and the Huskies of Uconn are in LAST place. Please excuse my using capitals for that but i could not help myself. Thanks for listening, lichoya

It's really hard to single out any one player for praise, because everyone on the team played their role perfectly. Chris attacked the basket, got people involved and hit some shots to bail us out. Jessie played great D, deferred to the young scorers and hit a huge shot when we needed it. Greg's performance was unbelievable; he is a phenomenal talent with a phenomenal coach with the perfect system for him to shine. Austin was a quiet assassin as always. You wouldn't know it until you chekced the box score, but as Bilas pointed out, every biggame, he shows up. And then there is D. Summers. He is a man now. He shot terribly from the field, and was rejected several times. Still, he kept playing hard, and attacking the rim. That weak side dunk was AWESOME. This kid has come ready to play every game and shown the eladership we need from our two upperclassmen.
What an awesome game. The bench played well, and made very few mistakes. Hopefully Sims will come along as well, but these guys did thier job tonight. And finally, JTIII had the guys ready to play and unafraid. Great job by everyone involved with this team tonight; I even heard the Hoya Saxa chant late in the game.

Just returned home to Boston from high up in section 217, where the extended Sapp family was dancing and we were pretty loud, even though there were not that many of us.
What a performance. The defense was astoundingly good. The starters each contributed greatly and Vaughn, Clark, and Wattad submitted solid minutes. Monroe, Wright and Summers were each spectacular at different times. I thought Summers could have been a bit more aggressive earlier in the game with drives to the hole, but he also spent quite a bit of time checking Thabeet on D so that may have slowed him down a bit. Freeman turned in his usual quiet but deadly offensive game, and Sapp was great on defense but came through with an ONIONS three when it was needed in the second half.
The key to this game, aside from the great D and solid effort on the defensive boards, was controlling the tempo. The entire game was played at Georgetown's pace. You could see how much that frustrated UConn. Chris Wright was great. Simply great. On the way out, GPHoya said he did not think we've seen this good a PG-center combo for the past 25 years. I have a hard time arguing with that.
18-19 from the line in the second half? On the road? In Hartford? How sweet it is.
It was great fun listening to the post-game Calhoun presser on the radio. I would not want to be a UConn player in practice this week. It is going to be rough sledding there.
;D

Well that was fun. When Calhoun starting subbing players in and out with no rhyme or reason in the first five minutes, I figured we were in pretty good shape and UConn was in serious trouble. I guess you have to resort to cheap motivational tactics like that when you coach a bunch of immature thugs.

On the way out, GPHoya said he did not think we've seen this good a PG-center combo for the past 25 years. I have a hard time arguing with that. I have been thinking the same thing, and trying to come up with other teams out there right now who can match them. If I was picking a team, I would take Chris and Greg over Hansborough and Lawson. The latter duo may be a bit better right now because of their experience, but the potential of Chris and Greg is shy high. Give them the entire season to really gel, and watch out.

One point that has not been emphasized here (and I didn't see the game, so I don't know how crucial this stat was), but they outrebounded us by only 3 and only one of the offensive board. Everybody was talking about how bad our rebounding was and how many OR we gave up and how Uconn would kill us on the boards, but we held up our end and seemed to defeat them in every other facet, thus retaining our #1 Pomeroy rating.

the espn box score has us getting out rebounded by 8 and 4 on the offensive boards. some nice things we attempted 4 more FG's then them and forced them into 17 TOs

Oh boy! That was a doozie! I was lucky enough to high five all of the hoyas (I think I missed Sapp) as they exited the court after their dominating win. They were all really pumped (as was I). Nikita was especially happy. What a great victory! Thank you Hoyas and JT3! We Are...Georgetown!!!!

biggest shot of the day was Jessie Sapps three in the second half.....it was getting pretty close untill then but after that we went on a run and put it out of reach. Hell of a win for the Hoyas!!! Let's ruin Pitt's undefeated season on saturday

The biggest play was gregs contact getting knocked out. I'm not trying to downplay the overall play of the hoyas, but that had the same effect as about 3 timeouts, and kinda took the crowd out of it at a crucial time. Overall, it was a great game, and I was very pleased with our foul shooting in particular. This aspect of the game tends to get neglected by some players, but clearly it kept our lead sizable and ended up breaking UCONN's back.

Saw the first half at DFW and what a first half it was, going up 15-1 to start off, with back-to-back Summers 3FG, followed by a Monroe 3FG to add to his excellent bounce passes in the lane to Freeman! Then got off the plane, thinking about the second half the whole time, and getting the slew of txts but the best one--final score Hoyas 74 Huskies 63!!!!!!!
These Hoyas are for real. HOYA SAXA.

Well, can't sleep and I awoke pinching myself and it did happen last night. Anyway i think the best quote of the day has to be Mr. microphone hitter Cuse's Jimmy B. who said , " They are young, but not quite as young as people thought." And i have to agree that Jesse Sapp's three was very critical, as was Greg's contact malfunction which was not as spectacular as Janet Jackson's Super Bowl malfunction but much more timely. Oh well, that was a great Christmas present, and i kinda wonder what New Years will bring. Perhaps it will be a Pitty one. Go Hoyas. Beat Pitt. Bye now, Lichoya ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

i can't say enough about the toughness this team showed last night. dajuan, who won't have to eat for a week after getting stuffed so much last night, just kept going at the basket...for better or worse, he kept attacking. same goes for austin. both took it upon themselves in the 2nd half to go hard to the basket and make FT's. greg did exactly what he had to do...make thabeet play him outside. i have yet to see this kid take a bad shot. he has to avoid the silly fouls though. the sapp 3 was true onions. jess at his best. clark, wattad, and vaughn did their job. my favorite though is chris wright. this kid completely changed the way our team plays. you want to run a half court game..chris does it. you want to run..chris does it. you want a PG that takes the ball into the paint and creates...chris does it. you want a PG that defends and rebounds...chris does it. you want a guy that can make a big shot...chris does it. i love this kid more every time i watch him play.
great job by the staff as well. shuffling greg in and out. forcing uconn to play a half court game (their guards really aren't good). great win. now, the gauntlet continues saturday.
ps....it was great listening to bilas gush over us for 2 hours.

First off that was an awesome win on National TV with every team watching. I loved the quotes from the other Big East coaches that watched. Statement game. You have to take that trophy from us.
One thing that I was really worried about going into the year was our lack of depth up front and that we would struggle against "power" teams like UCONN, PITT etc. I totally was focused on our perceived deficiencies instead of taking the other view.
We are literally impossible to guard right now. What in the heck do you do against us. We had 5 legit 3 point shooters on the floor with Monroe hitting 3's. Add the penetration ability of Wright and I have no idea how you defend us. We will kill zones with our shooting and Monroe passing from the post. Then in man to man you have to play Monroe out top which leaves back door lanes open and brings out the other teams biggest player who has to guard Monroe. We all know how good our offense is against man to man. I guess you have to play a sluff man to man or a 1-3-1.
As much as I LOVED Hibbert the trade to Monroe is the exact thing we needed to truly effectively run the Georgetown offense. Teams just sluffed off Hibbert out top.
We will get beat on the boards for the most part, but who cares.
