I hate to even ask this question, but frankly it might make sense for both of them. JTIII has been a college coach for a long time, and could immediately double (guessing) his salary while staying in DC. Wizards have run a similar offense and it wouldn't be starting for scratch for them or him. Despite being a college coach, I'd think the players would respect him having seen what he has done at Georgetown and because he seems to be a generally well-respected and well-liked person. Now everybody say "No Jinx" three times while standing on their heads.

12. This is not a rumor board. While speculation is a fact of life on message boards, there is a fine line not to cross. Issues of academic standing, intra-team issues, or personal information unsuitable in a public forum concerning recruits, student-athletes, coaches, or staff are unwelcome and may be pulled without warning. If you are citing speculation posted on another message board, note it accordingly. (If you are unsure and have a question, ask offline first.)
And that's the end of that chapter!

How does that apply here? Dhall's not claiming he saw JTIII and Abe Pollin smoking cigars together in a clandestine meeting, he's asking if III would ever consider an NBA job. How is that not a legit question? If you were the Wizards, wouldn't you talk to him? Edit: I'm not saying I think this happens, just that it's not so cut and dry for the Lock Police.

No, he was asking if they are talking NOW, not if JTIII would "ever" consider an NBA job.
Frankly, with no basis in fact for that, and not a single published report of anything of the sort, I really don't see the need for having a purely idle speculation thread about the Georgetown coach.
Nothing personal against Dhall, by the way. I'd say the same thing no matter who started the thread.

I actually wouldn't talk to JTIII. The list of college coaches succeeding in the pros is exceedingly small -- no matter how talented they are. Gotta play the odds, personally.

I agree with SF. It's a completely different skill set from being a college coach. In college, coaches are the stars and the kids that they get know that and come in wanting to play for them. In the pros, the players wield the power. I can't think of a recent coach that succeeded coming in from college, with the exception of Larry Brown. On the other hand, see Rick Pitino, Lon Kruger, Calipari, Tim Floyd, P.J. Carlesimo. I'm sure I'm forgetting some on both sides, but those are just the ones that popped into my head right now.

The only other recent college coach I can think of who's been modestly successful in the NBA is Stan Van Gundy - but I think he benefits a lot from his brother's experience. Of course, you can't forget Tark the Shark and Mike Montgomery from the ignominious either.

Larry Brown after leading Kansas to the title run is the only example I can think of and even then it is questionable as to whether: a) that is recent b) has Larry Brown been successful overall.
