in hoops:
These SEC "Powers" already have these stinking losses: VMI 111 - UK 103 (VMI then loses to a bad UVA team) Mercer 72 - Bama 69 (Mercer coming off a 13-19 season and "rebuilding") Loyola-Chicago 74 - UGA 53 (No comment)
And these three pulled out very uninspiring wins: Ole Miss 65 - Arkansas St. 52 (Miss trailed at the half and pulled away late) Arkansas 91 - SE Louisiana 87 (Ark had to go to OT to get the win) LSU 79 - JAckson St. 65 (39-39 at the half)
Of course it's still early, but it sure looks like the SEC is really down this year. Tennessee and Florida are the only ranked SEC teams right now. The rest are just rank.

Sounds like it might be about as bad as their Football this year. Actually, for some reason, my "league loyalty" stops with football. I don't really pull for any other SEC teams come tourney time. In bowl seasons, I do tend to like to see the SEC do well, but I don't have similar feelings in basketball. As for the strength or lack thereof in football, I still think the league is a quality league, but it is certainly a strange season. You have Bama and Florida that are dramatically improved, and among the elite teams in the Country. I still think Georgia is the clear #3 team and a very good team, but had the misfortune of running into Florida and Bama when they were better. After that, it is hard to say who is the next best team. It would probably be LSU, but they have really struggled after back-to-back beatdowns by Florida and Georgia. I do think the "middle" of the league is decent. Regardless of exactly what order you put them in, LSU, Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina and Ole Miss are at least competitive. That the bottom of the conference is bad isn't all that surprising, but which teams comprise the bottom is a bit of a shock. Perennial doormat Mississippi State is joined by typically strong teams in Tennessee and Auburn. Those three teams are about as bad an any SEC teams any season. Arkansas is in its own little level as being clearly better than those 3 teams but not as good as any of the other 8. Top to bottom, I would say the SEC isn't as strong as other years. But it's hard to say the league is down a lot when the 8th best team is either Kentucky or Ole Miss.

Who cares how the SEC is doing in basketball? In all honesty, I would think that at least a few of you would, at least if not laughing uproariously, would be at least chuckling a bit. I can't say that I would blame you.
