After roughly 2 years of jockeying and campaigning, it will finally come to a close. May the best man win and may our country prosper from its choice.
Dixville Notch up in half an hour.

It has certainly been a good time on here, especially keeping the off-season moving and eventful on the Board. The timing works out perfectly--we get our election, a day or two to discuss, and then it's time for Jacksonville!

Dixville Notch looks like this: Obama - 15 McCain - 6 Nader - 0
First Dem to win Dixville Notch since Humphrey.

A very calm and pleasant experience in Arlington this morning.
Pretty long lines, took about 90 minutes, some TV cameras on hand, and some very, very nice PTA people selling cookies.
One can only hope it goes that well everywhere..........yeah, and unicorns are real. Already problems up in Philly. And this afternoon/evening? Rain, rain and more rain in NC, VA and eastern PA.
Let the melee ensue!!! ;D

Pretty busy in Medfield, MA (home of Curt Schilling). Took about 20 minutes in and out.
Beautiful day here, plenty of people holding signs for our State Senator race, no one holding any for President or for John Kerry or his opponent.

Pretty busy in Chinatown (in DC) - when I voted in the Democratic Primary I just walked right in and voted with no line. Today it took 50 minutes (mainly because my last name starts with "m"). No problems with voting at all. Lots of Union people right outside the electioneering limits with Obama, Norton, and Jack Evans information. Inside my unscientific estimate is that there were 70 people in line when I got there. About 50% were African American, about 25% appeared to be under 35.

Lots of people (far longer line than the primary), yet the line moved quite quickly and I was out of there in 30 minutes. They had both paper and electronic ballots, and the paper ballots moved more quickly so I opted for one. Good to know I can still scantron with the best of them!

My only complaint from this morning was.......only 4 voting machines? Really? (and only four available booths for paper/optical scan ballots)
I don't think it would have taken nearly as long if they had just doubled that number. (And don't tell me they can't afford it.) Actually, with the paper ballots, there's no "afford it" about it. All they'd have had to do is set up a few more tables with screens on them. No cost at all.
But other than that, it was good.

A breeze in Cleveland Park this morning. In line at 6:45, doors opened at 7:00, was walking out at 7:15.
Thank God this campaign is over.

I waited an hour this morning in Rosslyn. It was a little confusing since two voting precents were right next to each other. Election officals had cool wireless touchscreen to walk around and help people be in the right line. I voted on the paper because there were only 4 electronic machines and I also wanted my vote to actually count. Lots of TV media outside filming the long line.

And just as a reminder, exit polls are only useful after an election, when all the data's been collected and properly measured. They're nigh useless right now, don't pay any attention.

Absentee voting was a breeze...got my ballot in the mail weeks ago, voted in my own living room and sealed/mailed it the next day. No lines, no miscounts, no clueless officials.
Nevertheless, glad to hear most places are without problems...not including Philadelphia of course. Haven't heard back from the parents voting there though.

Exit polls are pretty useless period. www.fivethirtyeight.com has a good listing of why. I'm not counting on them for much -- on any state I can't call right now, I'll wait for released data from the states.

Thanks to the joys of retail, I was able to sleep in and then somewhat liesurely drop by our polling station. The only real "glitch" was that they have now combined 2 precincts to vote in one building. But they are still considered two different precincts. There were two lines for each precinct -- 22 and 23. Last names beginning with letters A-L and M-Z for each. There were about 20 or 25 people there when I got there. EVERY SINGLE ONE was in my line. What are the odds of that? Obviously some of the people were couples, with the same last name, but still, to have that many people and all to not only be from the same precinct, but to have last names beginning with a letter from A-L While waiting in line, there was only one person who came up and was in the other precinct. In any case, it really was no big deal. It was probably 20 minutes from walking in the door to walking out.

A number of us (including C2C, DrumsGoBang, and myself) were outside Charleston, SC earlier this fall. We were amused to see signs all around advertising different candidates for Coroner. So not only was Coroner an elected position, the race was fiercely contested. What's the weirdest position you've seen up for election?

Got to the local library this morning around 8:00 on the way to work. One person in front of me in line. They couldn't find my name on the list and determined I was in a different precinct (though this was where I'd voted since moving to Utah). Apparently they divided up a lot of precincts in anticipation of heavy voting. Now I vote at a wardhouse about a block from my house instead of the library 1/2 mile away. Guess I'll have to wait to tonight to see how my vote will change the McCain/Obama balance in Utah.
