at least with so few away OOC games, the team can save a bundle of money on travel- that jet fuel has gotten expensive.

also of note is that there are 3 home games over Christmas Break (and 5 break games overall). that seems like more than in recent years.

For the games who's times are TBD, do we think they will be shown nationally and ESPN (and networks) haven't figured it all out yet? It would be a shame for a Gtown vs. Marquette game not to be shown most places.

In a stunning development, the athletic department continues to be unable to write an accurate press release. The press release refers to 12 nationally televised games, but the schedule listed below the verbiage has 16 games (15 if you exclude ESPN U)

Really, I don't think for National exposure only having one OOC road game hurts us that bad. People will see us at the OSC and then Duke will probably be a pretty big game and very hyped. As for home OOC we have Memphis. Thats 3-5 OOC games that will be televised that will give us renown. (How many did we have last year) Memphis, which we didn't look too good in and...

I think it is helpful to have a smattering of road games with a young team. It doesn't need to be big time, but the Navy's and James Madison's help. The ODUs help even more.
The Old Spice will be nice, but that game at UConn -- our first game against a hostile crowd -- is going to be interesting for the frosh.

it probably won't be as bad as it usually is since it's during winter break, of course they are a state school so there will probably be more students than if it was a non state school but there will still be a lot of people on vacation.

When we roadtripped to UConn three years ago (gosh, it feels like yesterday), the game was the last weekend of their winter break and not a lot of students were there.

Agree, it's better to play UCon over the break. Same goes for the ND on Jan. 5th, although we have a tough turnaround with the Jan. 3 game at Verizon against Pitt. We have an excellent chance to end that unbeaten streak.

Kudos to having less Saturday-Monday games than last year! I think we had three to four quick turnarounds last year. This year we have the Pitt-@nd quick combo and then the MU-Luvul, but this last one is at The Booth. Tough, but better than with travel...

If I remember correctly, Coach Thompson said outright last season that that scheduling was intentional, to prep a Final Four contender for the demands of the NCAA tournament. I don't think it's as big of a strategic concern this year.

Based on the RPI's from last year our OOC RPI looks to be better than last year if the front page numbers are right but i believe he calculated this years OOC numbers are wrong.
Teams we're definitely playing: Memphis 3 Duke 7 American 91 MtStM 159 Jacksonville 164 Whichita st. 199 Drexel 241 Sava st 254 FIU 263 so 2 top 50, 1 50-100, 3 100-200, 3 200-300. not sure why he doesn't have american as top 100 and has a school as being over 300.
Teams we could possibly play: gonzaga 30 Tennesse 2 Mich st. 16 Sienna 66 Maryland 85 Okla st 77
Highest combo we could play Tenn + Mich st= avg rpi of 127 Worst combo we could paly Sienna + Maryland + avg rpi of 139.
either way last years mean was 148 so either way we'd be at a better starting value.

To me that says "this game is getting moved to McDonough" but that might just be wishful thinking

At first i was a little annoyed that there were not many road games, but as i think about it, it shouldnt matter much. The OOC road games that could have been scheduled were never going to be as tough as the Beast ones so there may not have been much of a point. And the only time that how many road games were played becomes a concern is when a team is trying to grab a top seed in the NCAAs or be the last ones in. I would be shocked if either scenario were the case with this years team, who should be a solid lock for the tourney at around a 4 to 7 seed.
Also i was surprised that last years Opponent RPI was so high, i thought it would be lower than in previous years. But using last years RPI for this years opponents may not be fair. A few of this years opponents are predicted to be much improved over last year (american, jacksonville, and the mount). If those teams live up to there billing the final opponent RPI could be much higher. Also Sava St.'s schedule is loaded with BCS games, if they can win one or two or those their rpi would really jump.
this is an exciting schedule. the last few games added werent too exciting but overall there is little to complain about.

The G-Town/UCONN game is at the XL Center in Hartford. It's part of my season ticket package.
