Week 13 Picks for Games That Matter: Montana over Montana State in the Brawl of the Wild (seriously) Only stupid marketing people and transplants from California may call it that. The rest of Montana calls it [the] Cat-Griz [game]. And go Bobcats. Duly noted. For the record, both schools' athletic websites refer only to the Cat-Griz (or Griz-Cat) game. The newspapers are referring to it as both the Griz-Cat game and the Brawl of the Wild. ____________________________________________________ Kept watching the Miami-Ga. Tech game at the gym well into the 4th, just to keep hearing the Ga. Tech fight song (my favorite) over and over and over again. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a strange desire to go drink my whiskey clear.

I can get behind the To Hell with Georgia part of that fight song. Friend of mine from HS went there, had the car at his wedding.

Well---Cam Newton--backup QB for the Gators arrested for pulling a "UConn" aka stealing a laptop. Those who cast stones better make sure they don't live in glass houses or in Hifi's case--use the glass as a pipe for recreational use.

Well...
The Badgers Beat Cal Poly in Camp Randall.... In OT... By one point... And only because the Cal Poly kicker missed 3 extra points
All is fine, no need for worry!

So this Utah-BYU game is being shown on something called "The Mtn." That does not appear to be an option on Comcast's Boston lineup.

After the first drive I told my wife that the OK-Texas Tech game would be a blowout, which it is turning out to be.

Charlie Weis, please turn in your playbook. I know we Hoyas are NEVER supposed to be happy about a 'Cuse victory in anything. So I will just say, I was rather delighted to see ND lose. SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Syracuse couldn't pull off a big win in time to save coach Greg Robinson's job. The Orange did nothing to help Notre Dame's Charlie Weis in the area of job security, either. sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=283270087

More importantly, and hilariously, SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame football players were pelted by snowballs from fans sitting in the student section during their loss to Syracuse on Saturday.
...
Fans at first threw snow in the air, but then quickly switched to tossing snowballs toward the Notre Dame sideline. Defensive lineman Ian Williams got hit in the helmet, defensive end Ethan Johnson was struck on the left cheek and a St. Joseph County police officer on the sideline looking into the crowd got hit in the chest. An NBC camera man also was a frequent target and several snowballs reached the field, although none landed near where play was occurring.
When the Irish defense held a meeting on the sideline, injured linebacker Brian Smith stood on a bench to try to shield his teammates. But when a snowball hit Kuntz, he stood and faced the crowd and appeared to challenge whoever threw it to come down on the field. For God, Country, and Bandwagons sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3719375

So I just got HD cable. And one of my rewards is Universal HD, which is now showing the Irish's collapse against Syracuse in high def. It's beautiful. Just so beautiful.

Agreed, I'm loving this. I think that on a day like this we all need to set aside our differences, be they big or small, to point and laugh at ND. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed hoping that Charlie Weis is their coach for life.

While my sense of schadenfreude is supremely fulfilled by the ND loss (hey, I root for Michigan, so I've got nothing) -- what the fans did is really, really poor. Like, UMCP poor. That's not cool.
I'm pretty sure Oklahoma just scored again. At this point, I am cheering for any and all outcomes that will blow up the BCS.

This was the weekend of the lopsided score. Besides the obvious, NC State pasted N. Carolina 41-10 in Chapel Hill, Iowa blanked Minnesota 55-0 in Minneapolis, Ohio State whacked UM 42-7, Purdue whalloped Indiana 62-10 for the Old Oaken Bucket, and Penn State stomped Michigan State 49-18 on its way to its first Rose Bowl since 1995. Who says rivalry games have to be close? It was a beautiful day here in Lubbock yesterday -- clear skies, mid 60's, and for once the wind wasn't blowing. It turned out this was merely the calm before the storm. Texas Tech is better than last night's peformance, but that does not change the fact the Red Raiders received the worst beating I saw in primetime this season. Last night's 'contest' in Norman made Week 5's Alabama-Georgia game look close. The best comparison I can think of to last night's debacle? OU's loss to SC in the 2005 Orange Bowl. So, I think I am correct in saying Boston College and Va. Tech both control their own destiny re: the ACC Championship Game. I'm sure the conference would love a repeat of last year's game, particularly because turnout in Jacksonville was excellent (the 2008 game is in Tampa). I say Wa-hoo-wah and Go Terps. Big ups to Cincinnati QB Tony Pike, who beat Pitt with a broken arm and a bruised sternum. I haven't seen Brian Kelly's name mentioned in any Coach of the Year discussions, but he should definitely be in the mix. This century, the Bearcats have had a lot of success for a program with an all-time losing record in football. If Kelly sticks around, don't be surprised to see Cincy battling for Big East conference championships on a regular basis. On the subject of the Big East, how long until football power is firmly entrenched in the Rust Belt? Consider that Cincinnati is 289 miles from Pittsburgh, 309 miles from Morgantown, and 98 miles from Louisville. The Bearcats have official rivalry games with the Cardinals (trophy: the Keg of Nails) and the Panthers (River City Rivalry), in addition to a cool MAC rivalry with Miami-OH (trophy: the Victory Bell). Has anyone ever heard of the Schwartzwalder Trophy? No? That's because it hasn't mattered for YEARS -- it's awarded to the winner of the Syracuse-West Virginia game, which WVU has won for the past 6 seasons. When Penn State visited the Carrier Dome this season, did anyone care? Tell me, who is UConn's football rival? How about Rutgers? Geographical anomaly South Florida's biggest rival was UCF, but those two teams just canceled their series. The point here is: CFB football programs succeed based on a combination of winning and tradition. The Big East teams outside the Rust Belt are either losing tradition or never had it to begin with. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think successful football programs are built around games on Thursdays and Sundays or uniforms with diagonal stripes. Wins for Rice and Houston yesterday mean the Owls and Cougars head into the city championship at 9-2 and 7-4, respectively. Rice is playing for its first 10 win season since 1949, while Houston can clinch the CUSA-West title with a win. I like seeing old SWC teams doing well, so congrats to both programs. Another underappreciated team, the Northwestern Wildcats, also put away a good regular season by beating Illinois and preventing the Illini from traveling to a bowl game this season. NU is a good school and a good story -- I'd like to see them go to a good bowl, too, but fear they'll get passed over for Iowa. Oregon State gets my TEAM of the year award. The Beavers rode a balanced attack to a gutty win over Arizona in the desert last night. I'll be pulling hard for the orange and black in the Civil War -- I'd love to see them go to the Rose Bowl and play well against a Penn State team that demolished them in Happy Valley. The Coaches' Poll rankings are out, and the Top 5 are as follows: 1. Alabama (56) 2. Oklahoma (4) 3. Florida (1) 4. Texas 5. SC My ballot would be: 1. Alabama 2. Florida 3. Texas 4. Oklahoma 5. Penn State

I'm glad the press is slamming them on this. Now this makes me more eager for our basketball team to go there and ruin their win streak at home. I hate Syracuse, but in a way I'm happy for them. After a week where they saw their coach fired, they kept working hard and went into South Bend and won. That's a pretty big accomplishment that could only have happened with hard work and focus.

Re: the snowballs at ND stadium. From what I hear from people in the student section, the snowballs were directed at the cameramen and TV timeout guy, and the students around the throwers were pretty Editeded about the ones that hit the players.
But whatever.
I'm done with Weis. I really believed, then wanted to believe, but I was wrong. I'm mostly disappointed b/c he works hard and cares about ND. He is not up to the job, however. I felt terrible for the seniors.

the worst thing about nd is that he set up this ridiculously easy schedule and they still can't finish above .500. next year, the schedule is even easier, including games against both washington and wsu. weis is a fraud. his intention was to play these crap teams to get wins and get people off his back. hopefully, it blows up in his face again next year.
