This is just plain silliness.
OK, let's assume for a moment that everything these protesters (and maybe even some people here) believe about Fox News is 100% true, that Fox is not a news organization, but a PR shill serving conservative Republicans and large corporations. I don't think it's the case, but let's even assume that this reporter was asking them very unfriendly questions in advance of this demonstration.
If all of that is true, then how does doing something like this do anything except give Fox a legitimate excuse to run this clip to millions of viewers every day of the convention? Not only that, but they can say, "See, middle America? These are the people that are in Denver, these are the people who are supporting Barack Obama."
Someone needs to get the ghost of Martin Luther King to sit these people down and tell them the ABCs of effective protesting. Physically assaulting the people you don't like doesn't really get the job done.
Yes, that was a fun moment for you, nutbars. You got to kick out the reporter from the evil Fox network. And you got to swear and make obscene gestures at him when he walked away. Guess what? You also just earned the approbation of anyone and everyone -- from any side of the political spectrum -- who might possibly have listened to any legitimate concerns you may have.
Police state, my ass. These people would soil their pants and roll over to the government in a New York minute in a real police state. (I probably would too, but I'm not trying to make the claim that we live in one now).
And to answer your first question, no I don't believe these Re-Create 68 idiots represent Obama or the Democratic Party in any way. But they're not doing either any favors. Not that they care, I'm sure.
To answer the next question, yes I believe that conservative protesters are capable of and have performed such acts of idiocy as well. They're morons too. (Fruitloops, wingnuts, or "Ron Paul voters" are also acceptable names to apply to them.)
