As a lifelong Braves fan, obviously this hasn't been a very enjoyable baseball season. Not only are the Braves struggling mightily, but for the first time since I was a kid, almost none of their games are televised. As would be expected, my general interest in baseball has tapered off tremendously. I am curious if this sentiment is unique to me and/or othre Braves fans or not.
It's almost football season, and I don't think I have watched a complete baseball game yet this entire season. I have always sort of liked the Cubs and since people tend to pull for the underdog if they don't have a dog in the fight, they have always been my adopted second team. So now that they are a serious contender again, I'm sure I will start following them more closely.
Question to you all:
Is your interest in this baseball season the same as it has been, more interest or less interest?
I just heard yesterday that they continue to break attendance records, so at least in person there is as strong an interest as ever before. But what about the sport as a whole?

How the hell can a Gator fan like a baseball team that uses the tomahawk chop?
(Do Braves fans still do that? Are there still Braves fans?)
To answer your question, my interest in this season is the same that it has always been....zero.
;D
Though if we can get some new teams in the playoffs this year I'll probably watch that...in between football games.

My interest this year has been way up.
1) The sudden emergence of Tampa as an alternative to the two evil empires in the AL East is a very compelling reason to follow scores and check standings. With that comes the potential end of the Yankees streak of postseason appearances.
2) The Nats new park is a reason to attend otherwise unmemorable games. Result: I've seen alot more games in person this summer than in the past.
3) The Orioles, my team, have decided that 10 years of abject futility is enough. For the first time since i was in middle school, there are signs of life at Camden Yards this year. The team actually may have some sort of front office direction and there seems to be real desire on the part of most of the team to end the sucking. Also, Nick Markakis has a sweet swing.
4) Cubs and Brewers in the NL Central. No matter how that division shakes out-- i gotta say that the winner is the favorite to win the NL. If its the Cubs in the world series... holy frickin crap. That hasn't happened in my dad's lifetime. If its the Brewers in the Series...holy frickin crap. That hasn't happened in my lifetime.
5) New Stars. See Braun, Ryan. Hamilton, Josh. Longoria, Evan. Volquez, Edison. Lincecum, Tim.
6) Fernando Tatis is hitting .300 and playing every day for the Mets. He's just one of a number of feel good stories.
7) Theres the possibility, sorry TBird, that we might finally see Ken Griffey Jr play in a world series.
8) The 2 teams that sold off big names in the off-season (Twins and Orioles) will likely finish with better records than the teams who overpaid for their stars (Astros, Mets, Mariners)

As a 3rd generation Angels fan, my interest this year has been massive.
Throw in the awesomeness of the new Nats park and my first visit to Yankee stadium (had to before it was replaced) and it's safe to say that I've been highly interested this year.

ichiro, you make some good points. The Devil Rays (I still call them that) are a good story. The Cubs-Brewers race makes for good sports interest. The individual stories like Hamilton are certainly intriguing at the least. Now that I have started paying more attention, there are certainly some interesting story lines.

Boz, I have hated the chop since its inception. Deion "taught" it to the Braves fans after "learning" it at FSU. You're right in that I can't stand the chop. In all honesty, had the Braves not already been my team, I probably never could have adopted them if they were already doing the chop.
C2C, I'd imagine that your interest would be pretty high this year. The Angels have a damn good team and if you are a Dodger fan, I think that the addition of Manny is going to make them the team to beat in the NL west.
