I wrote a long rebuttal and the system lost it. Suffice to say:
1. Reagan was more moderate than the current admin but still hardly a model of balanced economics. For example, he built a huge deficit while in office. That may be your definition of "true conservative ideology" but it isn't the current Republican party's. You should check that out.
2. Please don't play the "Anti-Servicemen" card with me. My main reason for disliking the war from Day One was because I value their lives and efforts.
Our military hasn't been perfect in Iraq, but I honestly can't imagine them performing any better considering they've been understaffed and our government has been uninterested in really giving them the resources to occupy or, as importantly, rebuild Iraq.
There is less and less violence in Iraq these days -- that's not hard to say. I don't know how that excuses the fact that the reasons for entry and the lives of our soldiers are questionable and again, the total lack of a "Marshall Plan" for Iraq.
I sincerely hope that when we pull out, Iraq can quickly right itself and become a true democracy -- though they'd cringe at your "western" -- but my logic says that we may be in a situation where neither staying nor leaving will yield a good result for the US or Iraq.
And that's what I mean by disastrous.
