2 questions for the board

We've all talked about who we think the starting five will consist of, who is likely to have a breakout year, and who will likely be our "go to" guy at the end of a tight game. I've heard that Freeman looks strong and has been aggressively going to the hole. We all have to imagine that Dajuan wants to have a breakout year and make this his team. We all know that Chris will likely be the catalyst, our best penetrator and a major threat from behind the arch. We know that Greg is getting more comfortable with each game and that he has no ceiling in terms of his potential. And finally, we know that Jessie will be our senior leader and captain. With all that...when its all said and done...who is going to lead this team in scoring?

With all the offensive fire power....will all 5 starters average double digits in scoring?

1. I'd say Austin or DaJuan

2. 5 in double digits is a lot to ask for but I would not be suprised if 4 got into double figures regularly

I gone on record saying that i think it will be Austin, he looked really great this summer getting to the basket, hitting from 3, also developing the ability to post up smaller players and punishing them in the block which will really help if he plays alot of 2, which i suspecting he will. I think thoguh Dajuan will shoot the most, but Freeman will shoot over 50% from the field again easily. Be that 180 shooter Majerus always talks about.

i think 4-5 will....Summers, Freeman, Sapp...Wright and Monroe will be close..hard to
answer this question tho cause alot depends on the pace we play. if we play faster its definitely 5...too much talent on the floor. and i dont think the make-up of this team will allow them to just go thru one player for points. Everyone is truly unselfish.

1. Austin. I would have said Dajuan, but he consitently has had bad games and then good games. If it's Dajuan, then I'll be happy that I was wrong.

2. Last year we had three over 10+ (Roy, DaJuan and Jon) and two (Sapp and Austin at 9.7 and 9.1, respectively). I expect DaJuan and Austin to be over 10+ and Sapp to break through for the first time in his college career. Then, Wright and Monoroe will take their shots and get fouled to get the doubles. So, yes, 5 averaginf doubles.

I haven't seen anyone on the team play since Easter...but, from what I've read (and from what I saw at the end of last season), I feel like Austin will be our most consistent scorer, and because of his consistency, he will lead the team in scoring.
As far as average scoring, I think 3-4 is plausible to have in the double digit range, and it all depends on the tempo of the game we play (I imagine it faster than past years) and how much we change up our style of play. Last year it seemed we only shot outside simply because we never looked inside, but I hope this is different with Monroe and Sims, and with Summers playing a more active role and not sitting outside the arc most of the time. So, I think having 5 in double figures is plausible, but I just don't think it's likely.

I think the reason we shot outside so much last year wasn't caused by not looking inside, but we didn't have guys that were good at making entry passes, and we really only had one guy that was a low post threat, and he was constantly doubled. I think eventually we did look away from getting it inside, but it was more because of our inablility to get it in there successfully. We also didn't have any guys that could create their own shot or a shot for someone else, which is another reason we relied so much on the three. And if we did they couldn't do it with consistency.

Its probably too early for any of this speculation. But I think five will be in double figures.

Summers and Freeman are a lock.

No way even JTIII could hold Chris Wright to under ten points if Wright is in the starting lineup. No way. Another lock.

Greg Monroe wouldn't be putting up Beasley or Durant numbers even if he played for Texas and Kansas State. But being perhaps the only inside threat in the starting lineup and being so talented and considering his showing in the KL this summer (which may end up being the best and most consistent performance for a frosh in his KL debut in a long time...better than Jeff's even) I don't see how that guy doesn't at least get 10 a game to keep defenses honest.

So that leaves Sapp. And after two seasons of averaging over 9 points but under 10, I think its time for Sapp to crack that 2 digit barrier. Especially if the tempo increases (and if it doen't III will need an intervention IMO).

As for leading scorer I'm still going to go with Summers. And if he does end up being both the leading scorer and best player then the Hoyas will have a very special season.

I think Freeman could create his own shot even last season but he didn't have the experience or the confidence to take matters into his own hands because he was simply a frosh. Everything else though I agree with. And I will add that with the three point line being moved back perhaps the Hoyas won't rely as much on the three-point shot. As good as Freeman, Wrights and at time Summers' outside shooting can be, the only guys on this team that probably should take a very high percentage of three point shots (40% or more of all total field goals) are Nikita and Omar. Especially Omar because his handle is likley the worst of all the Hoyas' perimeter players but his outside shot is money.

I agree as well, but I think thats his nature too, he doesn't want to dominate the ball. I'd like to see him play like the 2 louisville games or the 2nd half of the @wv game more, just being "aggressive searching out shots" rather than being a "I only shoot within the flow of the offense guy"

Nikita has been money as well and it looks like Chris really likes to get down in transition to kinda set-up those chances for Nikita to spot-up. I didnt go today to the games...too much fun last night, but Chris has really embraced more of a set-up role in last 2 Tombs games I saw.

PEOPLE ASSUMING THAT GREG WILL PLAY THE CENTER POSITION i think vaughn and simms listed as the centers if that means anything and greg point forward like jeff but hes been looking stronger and more able to be that center but what do i know go hoyas whoever and whereever you are

wow...if this were the case...we'd be absolutely unstoppable next year. that said, I don't think we'd have two guys at 15 plus a game... in fact, I can't remember another g'town team that has. perhaps Zo and Smitty did it.... don't think that Iverson and Page or Iverson and Harrington did either...not sure though. Not even sleepy and ewing managed that.

Its interesting how many on this board thought monroe would score more than Roy did last year (including a I believe you MCI)...and now he's on the cusp of averaging double digits with most out there. has the expectation changed?

At the risk of being chastised yet again for no reason other than being a Gator, in all seriousness, that kind of balance is an ideal formula for success. Everyone talks about having the "go to" guy, especially at the end of a close game. And obviously everyone would like to have Michael Jordan on his team, but at least anecdotally, I think that Noah, Horford, Brewer, Green and Humphrey illustrate the sound logic of striving for balance. Having guys like Adrian Moss and Chris Richard on th bench doesn't hurt either. I see a lot of similarities in the Hoyas this year to Florida's young team that had to "rebuild" from losing David Lee, Matt Walsh and Anthony Roberson. There is a lot of young talent and if things fall into place, and if the players can meld as a team, then I expect big things from GU.

Actually we have had 6 years in which two Hoyas have had more than 15 ppg.
