The first time I ever saw her name or encountered her in any way was when I read this post. I can already explain her celebrity though: She is remarkably attractive, so people don't mind when she does dumb to get attention. Many are probably even drawn to it. For all the in-depth psychoanalyzing going on in that article, and all the discussion of internet personalities, I think the whole thing boils down to her being a great looking girl.
I checked out her site and read that article. If I did 9/10 of the things she does, I'd be arrested or beaten up.

I actually had the opposite reaction. I read the first 3 paragraphs, and started wondering whether she is hot. So I scrolled down to the pictures. I decided that she wasn't hot enough for me to care about, and I stopped reading the article. Not saying she is unattractive, but just not hot enough to interest me in her nonsense.
But I guess that proves your point - how interested you are in someone like her is directly related to how attractive you find her.

fatthew = brilliant.
My reaction to this chick is that she is definitely hittable and has capitalized on her God-given gifts in a rather unconventional way. If she somehow fills a niche and can make a living in that manner, who am I to hate on her success.
She will likely have a fall from grace, get suckered into starring in a late-night skinemax flick, lose all her family and friends...and there I will be waiting with open arms.

I tuned this out several months ago when I saw the chart of the "media elite" she has dated and who their respective partners have been. I don't know how the cost-benefit played out in her mind, but I'm pretty sure it is distinctly different than mine.

No one remembers when she was writing embarrassing articles for The Hoya? There were plenty of threads about her articles in 2003 and 2004.

She was the one with the sex column and then got kicked off The Hoya for plagiarism. Her "career" is both annoying and pointless. If you want a good laugh, read Reblogging Julia (http://baugher.tumblr.com). Basically rips her a new one on a frequent basis.
