Write Up from ESPN.com on Nike Global Challenge had this on Roscoe Smith
ROSCOE SMITH-- "Smith is a lengthy wing type for the highest level. He glides into transition and is one of the smoothest finishers around. He has a nice feel for the game as he made a number of nice passes, especially in transition. He can take defenders off the dribble and he can hang in air while finishing.
Dwayne Bryant's team got a win today in consolation bracket.
Aziz N'Diaye's team lost again-but N'Diaye is having a nice tournament averaging 10 ppg and 13 rpg.
As a side note--I was reading a recap of an event and came across the name Corey Edwards. He's a 5'10 rising sophomore at Queens Chris the King HS. He's also the son of one time Hoya and then Texas A&M Aggie--David Edwards.

Terrance Jones--who is playing on Roscoe Smith's team at Global Challenge is scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Georgetown later this Month. His sister attends Howard University and he's going to come out and visit as his family drops her off for school. Jones also starting to hear more from North Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Kansas--along with numerous others who have already offered--Pac 10, Big XII, SEC, and Big 10 teams primarily.
Terrance is from Portland Jefferson HS and is class of '10. He's played this Summer with a broken finger on his off hand for AAU Team (Team Fred Jones).
Tonight--Terrance had 3pts and 4 boards in 7 minutes of play in his team's win.
Roscoe Smith didn't have any stats as he only played 4 minutes. (don't know why he didn't play--could be matchup with opposing team?)
Harrison Barnes had 22 pts in 24 minutes today after a shaky opening game in his team's win.
So it'll be Team's 1 and 2 going at it tomorrow and I'm guessing Roscoe will play more--as opponent has Barnes, Rodney Williams, and Royce White amongst others--but has more athletic SF/SG types.
A player who had mentioned Hoyas once in a while (more in Spring) Keith Appling, guard from Michigan in '10 class committed to Michigan State Friday. Appling is a combo guard and nice shooter--and good pickup for Spartans.

Roscoe Smith had a HUGE game last night in Global Challenge Final. In only 21 minutes of play--he had 22 pts, and 8 rebounds and that was against Harrison Barnes (11 and 7), Rodney Williams JR, Royce White, and company.
Terrance Jones had 8pts 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 11 minutes of play.
So the two top Hoya recruits at the event showed well and efficient in leading their team to victory. This is same event that Greg Monroe and Hollis Thompson won last year as teammates.
Dwayne Bryant's team ended up 2-1 and finished 5th.
A Canadian kid who mentioned Hoyas last Summer at this event--Alwayne Bigby had 23 pts and 8 boards in 26 minutes in his team's win today.
Aziz N'Diaye had 12 and 13 boards in his team's loss.

Jordan Hamilton got into it with a Serbian guy--it was after open court/loose ball play--and they got after it a bit--but nothing serious--just a bit overhyped. Serbian team is very emotional and acts like it on court/on sidelines, etc...and think it pumped up the US players--and one thing led to another.
All I know--from people I know at the event--ROSCOE SMITH is one tremendous player and made a huge imprint at the event.
Terrance Jones was nice too--especially considering he blocked 2 of my contacts shots in less then a minute!! ;D

Lenzelle Smith JR--from Chicago is hearing from Hoyas. He's a muscular guard and in class of '10. He's had a nice Spring/Summer and just received an offer from Ohio State--but talked up Hoyas a great deal in his latest update with Rivals.com.

He looked like a big in his rivals photo. I thought he was that kid that supposedly went to Marshall from SC.

Question for the recruiting gurus... What are our chances with Roscoe Smith? I read he is basically a UNC lock, albeit from a UNC website.

Dad is controlling (good thing), but if GU led at any point, which I don't know if they did, then once other bigs jumped in his situation became wide open. I actually think it has been that way all along.

The question about the Hoyas' chances is a good one. But the stuff some people bring up aboout what info one read on a website gets a little tiring. This is not a criticism aimed at one person because its been a common occurrence on these boards. III is recruiting Josh Hairston and Roscoe Smith. The Hoyas have legit shots with both. But every time someone comes across one poster or more on Duke or UNC sites claiming that such and such is a lock for the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels it appears we get scared and only then do we come here and ask the recruiting gurus if the Hoyas actually have any chance. Are you folks really swayed by everything you see from Tobacco Road message boards? And aren't an awful lot of UNC fans and Duke fans arrogant enough to think every player they go after to be a virtual lock for them?
Seriously the way so many college bball fans (not just Hoya fans) think that anytime Duke or uNC directs an eye towards a recruit the game is over, you start wondering then why the heck do opposing coaches even start recruiting players at all. I mean shouldn't they at least wait until Roy Williams and Coach K are finished taking all the players they want, filling their scholarship openings, before they start working on the remaining recruits left? This is absurd. Lets stop being spooked anytime the ESPN favorites go after recruits the Hoyas are also going after.
I'll admit it would be a blow for the Hoyas to lose out on both Hairston and Smith. Considering the Hoyas have been recruiting both guys longer it would be frustrating to see both guys go to programs engaged in virtually what is an arms race between two schools bent on outdoing the other. But I have faith in III and I know that at least he is trying very hard to bring in the best recruits. Can we have some faith or at least stop questioning our chances because of guys with agendas on other boards making statements or predictions?

I was just asking about Smith and UNC because there hadn't been much about who he was leaning towards or favorites on here, probably because he is wide open. The only thing I ever read about him is linked with UNC. I personally am not scared of going head to head with either UNC or Duke, just curious as to where certain players are leaning.

why would we be afraid of going after duke it's worked out pretty well for us so far. We've clearly shown we can go head to head with them and win. I know I read other teams boards to get information, but I take everything i read with a pound of salt. everyone has their "sources" but 95% of them are full of even if they do end up being correct. It's fun to read other boards to hear what other people are saying but I don't believe anything until it's printed by a reliable source.

First, no, who has time to read other boards? WHY would anyone want to read them? Who wants to be like hifi? Second, I'm not spooked. Recently, we've gotten who we've wanted (over Duke, etc...) and we are and will be loaded, with or without Hairston and Smith. There's too much talent out there.

Re: Smith, his family has not tipped his hand at all. They've got offers from (literally) every single top program in the country, from Georgetown to Duke and UNC to Kansas to Florida to UCLA, literally everywhere. Some people on the UNC sites have floated the rumor that Roscoe was a UNC fan growing up, and that he was a UNC lean as a result. Not sure whether or not he was a UNC fan, but he hasn't come out and said he likes UNC best. My opinion on his recruitment is that as of now NOBODY should feel too confident about landing him, simply because he's a top 10-15 player in an excellent class and has offers to basically go anywhere in the country. Just on probability, the chances that he goes to any school in particular, be it UNC, Georgetown or wherever, are low. But it would seem to be anybody's game, at least until he comes out and gives a list or starts taking visits.
Re: Duke and UNC fans in general, they are always confident that they are going to get guys that their staff shows a lot of interest in. But that's not really abnormal, in fact a lot of our fans (the ones that follow recruiting) generally do the same thing, and a lot of our fans were penciling in Josh Hairston, and thats why there was such uproar when all of a sudden we were maybe not in his top 3. A lot of fans get excited about recruits and get confident about their odds of landing them. But kids will change their minds, things happen, its a dynamic world. Sometimes getting in on a kid early makes a difference, sometimes it doesnt. Coach K was on Greg Monroe before JTIII. JTIII was on Nolan Smith before Coach K was. When we lost Nolan to Duke, we ended up just fine by landing Chris Wright. I think that's always important to keep in context. You win some, you lose some, but if you're an elite program you always come out of it ok. And right now Georgetown is one of those top tier programs. I want Hairston and Roscoe as bad as anyone but if they go to the ACC we'll land other top 100 types to compensate. We've got a great coach and great staff that works the trail hard, and for that we should be grateful and not too worried about losing some good players now and again (when/if it happens).

Excellent perspective, RB. The world doesn't rise or fall with a single recruit, unless his name is Patrick Ewing or Lewis Alcindor.

Excellent perspective, RB. The world doesn't rise or fall with a single recruit, unless his name is Patrick Ewing or Lewis Alcindor. And players like that want to go to solid, winning programs. GU is in contention for anyone they target. JT3 has been doing a great job and will continue to.
