From Washington Post article today on U-18 players www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/03/AR2008070303366.html"Cheek recognized as opportunity beyond Team USA experience. Though he is undecided about his college choice, he conceded that after only one practice with Thompson, he could see himself in a Georgetown uniform next year. Hopefully if I play well enough and he likes me, we can sit down and talk about that once this is all over. He's a great coach, and it's a great program, but we'll see what happens"

wow...this would be huge. I believe he is a top 10 prospect and runs the point...other then that I was hoping the recruiting gurus might enlighten us on Cheek.
btw...love the fact that jt3 is an assistant for team usa. the recruiting benefit doesn't hurt either.

am I correct in thinking that he'd effectively be replacing Sapp on our roster?

Bras, Dash, Hollis and Cheek would have to be considered another top 10 recruiting class.
I like the fact that we'd basically be bringing in a different position player in each slot.

That'd be a top 5 class. Cheek is a SG, not a point. Can stroke it.

wow, cheek would be a huge get. for anyone thats never seen him play: He seems to have the whole package. Great stroke, can finish on the break, nice hops, has good strength for his size, quick hands, gets into passing lanes... i like it a lot. Is this the same St. Anthony's in NJ that brought us Perry?

I watched the game between St. Anthony's and Tyreke Evans Academy (for those who don't know--the "school" Tyreke attended is closed--if you would like to call it a school) and Cheek was best prospect on court--and has a big time jumpshot-but good team concept.
I'd just say--be careful getting too hyped when a kid talks to local paper--these kids are very polished--as you'll notice in Post article--Lance Stephenson mentions Hoyas again as well. If something comes of it--great--Cheek is a great fit for the Hoya program in terms of playing style--but I'm not counting on anything getting serious as of now. If that changes-great--he's a big time shooter.
A couple of other points--Bob Hurley isn't the biggest Hoya fan you'll find--but maybe he'd view the program differently considering III worked in NJ and is more known for developing players offensive games--as opposed to Anthony Perry fiasco under Esh.
Cheek has had interest from Hoya program and listed them on/off in past--so if he really likes the program and III decides to push this forward--it's not that far fetched to think they could get in this recruitment.

Its difficult not to get over-hyped. If the chips fall into place with key guys returning, in my mind we we are one very good player from from being a true titile contender again.

Oh I am with you about the TEAM--I'm on record thinking that Georgetown wins it all in '10--but I'm talking about individual recruits who list you when interviewed by local paper. If Cheek/Stephenson continue to list Hoyas after to neutral media sources--then it's a serious possibility.

IMHO, if everyone returns, and we add Riley and Thompson, we will already be a National Title contender. Potential stars on that team include (at least): Monroe Summers Freeman Wright Now, if we add one, or even two more 4 or 5 star recruits? Well then we'd just have to be prepared to hear one thing. "No Fair"! I think that's what we'd be hearing from the rest of the Conference, the ACC, and all the others!

But Cheeks comments went above and beyond, or at least they sounded that way in print.

If we get Cheek, this team becomes absolutely sick. He fits in perhaps more than Lance in the fact that he's going to be fundamentally sound from day one, he's got size, length and a great jumper. It would be crazy if we got Cheek. He's a big ACC priority.

The way recruits are picking G'town, there might not be any room left at the inn.

I saw the same game RDF did. Cheek was incredible. He was the best player on the court and had something like 18 points in the 1st half. The impressive thing was that he scored in a variety ways - draining 3s, drives to the basket, finishing with his opposite hand.
I've seen him a couple of other times as well and I think he is a top 5 player in this class. At this point, he is definitely not a PG. A few months ago, Nova was the rumored leader. I think his relationship with Tyshawn Taylor makes Kansas a big factor as well. I would love to see him at Gtown.

I can't imagine a better recruiting advantage than having these kids spend a month with JT3 as a coach on the Int'l team. Not just the on the floor coaching... which is more than enough right there. But they will also be traveling overseas, together 24/7, really needing someone to look out for them. And over that time frame, a coach can't just get by on his recruiting spiel and smile. All of those factors are big advantages for JT3.
I'm sure it will help McKillop and Grant too, but GU and Davidson are not competing for the same guys.

And JTIII, as assistant coach, does not have to play the role of heavy as much as McKillop. He could play good cop to McKillops' bad.

Well, both GU and Davidson are on Ryan Kelly's list.

Well, both GU and Davidson are on Ryan Kelly's list. I know they are SF, but do you think that is a realistic inclusion? I just can't see a kid of Kelly's talent, potential and ranking going to Davidson with so many other options available.
