Hillary's new strategy apparently includes making Alberta a state, since she can't win with what currently exists.

Two more hockey teams for the US and fewer hockey teams in that good-for-nothing country up north?
She's got my vote!

The biggest loser in all of this? Obama.
Really. He has to keep campaigning in states so that Clinton doesn't win them by huge margins and make a case to superdelegates that he's gaining momentum. McCain gets to craft his message to attack the presumptive nominee. Every time Obama wins (in quite a few states that are solidly Republican or solidly Democratic and won't be in play in November), the inevitable analysis is not an Obama win, but either a) Hillary still won't quit, or b) Obama didn't win by enough to knock her out.
As a Republican, this is like the gift that keeps on giving.
EDIT - Wonder if there's any chance that Obama gives a press conference after WV, basically saying "I've won", and moves on to the general election fight? Talk about totally torpedoing the Clinton supporters.

Do you think to some extent, this could be HELPING the Democrats? By keeping this campaign going, anyone who is independent / independent leaning Democrat is spending all this time wrangling over Hillary or Obama (and the independent / independent leaning Democrat is probably an enormous portion of the population given the current Pres's approval). If we knew the candidate 2 months ago, it would be all the more time for McCain to dig into the Democratic nominee. It's sort of like he's on the side arguing with no one while Hillary and Obama are keeping at the forefront.

While both sides can debate the various merits of the second half of this column, I hope that all of us can agree that George Will's first 4-5 paragraphs today are pretty gosh-darn funny.... Yankee Fan Go Home

It's sort of like he's on the side arguing with no one while Hillary and Obama are keeping at the forefront. I can't see it. Any independent worth his or her salt knows that the race is now between McCain and Obama. McCain can tailor his attacks to Obama, because there's a 99% chance he'll be the nominee (Obama and Clinton are also remarkably similar in their platforms). Obama, meanwhile, has to spend money in states that Democrats are guaranteed to win for primary victories to keep Hillary from winning 70% of the vote. I can't see much media coverage of the rest of the race, as everyone is pretty much sick of it.

The other benefits to Democrats are that (a) it will damn hard for McCain's folks to find out anything new about Obama that he might use to attack him; or (b) the media will focus its meanery glasses on McCain, who has largely been given a free ride since Romney's concession speech. All kidding aside, I'd definitely trade British Columbia for, say, Texas. Texans already think they're in their own country anyway, right Austin and DFW?

As a Mad TV sketch said long ago, I think it's better if we get Saskatchewan in a straight trade with Canada for Aerosmith.

I would also trade British Columbia for Texas.

What, you think the rest of the country will tolerate British Columbia's decriminalized weed and legal prostitutes? The United States would ruin that place if we annexed it.
As for Texas, we can already fly our flag at the same height as the U.S. flag, and we're also allowed to have our own navy. So there really wouldn't be that much to gain by leaving the Union. Plus, I doubt y'all actually want to dump the world's 8th largest economy while the country's in a recession.
Back to the subject of this thread, it seems Hillary's "Northern Strategy" played well in West Virginia, a state where voters base their vote on the candidates' middle names.

Go hoooooooome Mountaineers! Ironically, as a result of their fans' interactions at the NCAAs in the Phone Booth this March, we now have a new group of allies against WVU: Duke fans. Wonders never cease....
You make a cogent economic point, Austin, but we already know you have your own navy:

You're showing a surprising amount of knowledge about Snow Mexico -- tell the truth, you're not really from SoCal, you're a Mountie!!!!!!!!!

I have now come to the conclusion that the Democrats are actually actively TRYING to lose this election. Before I thought it was just passive ineptness. ;D (seriously, I don't think Obama would ever consider this, but the prospect of it is enough to get every single conservative in America out to the polls)
