Hey, did everyone hear Mr. Potatohead is opening his own restaurant?!? Seriously, I've been as hard on Vern, and what he might have meant to this program, as anyone else on the board. But come on, none of us have any idea what his motivations are. If he goes to Florida or some other school, I hope he makes the best of it, both on the court and in the classroom. That being said, maybe I just think too highly of Georgetown, but I gotta think that it's not just any old major college basketball program. I think there are probably many schools that everyone knows academics are secondary, if they're emphasized at all. I don't think that's the case with Gtown--on the by and large, if you're coming to Gtown, you know you're going to have to hit the books too. I'm willing to give Vernon the benefit of the doubt (especially when I don't have any reason not to), that he knew and valued the academic side of Gtown as well. So I'm sure he'll approach his transfer in the same way. if you are born with skills/talents that the majority does not have, exceptions are always made in your favor..............we are not the exception to that rule

Can I get a PM on that, too? Deleted. Deleted. Perhaps you would like someone to post their unconfirmable observations of your behavior on a public internet forum sometime?I can confirm I've never spit on a restaurant bar. If I ever do, my biggest problem will not be discussion of it on the internet. It'll probably be that I was a huge jerk in a restaurant with my classmates wishing I'd stop spitting on the bar. The point you seem unable to understand is that this is not the forum for you to post items like this about current or former players. The corollary is that this is a thread discussing Macklin's transfer to Florida, not something you may have observed in a bar a year or two ago involving a former player. Keep pushing and risk a posting ban.

I wish Big Ticket good luck on his new chance to shine. JTIII tried to make him a center, played him as Hibbert's backup, but he is really a forward. I watched all the offensive sets when he was in, they were the same as when Big Roy was in, but Verrn is 5 inches shorter and 50 lbs lighter and no sky hook. I thought that when the season started that JTIII would split the time at forward between Vern and Pat. That didn't happen. Since JT has come to GT, it has been either start in two, or you are done in two.
Look at the recors, edited - no speculating on potential future transfers - consult board rules.
2005 recruits: Jessie Sapp Octavius Spann Josh Thornton Marc Egerson

wow it's crazy that we've lost 4 of 3's first 7 recruits and we may lose a 5th with only jessie and dajuan making it through. I hope this pattern levels off.

At what point is there need for concern with this?
Also, we're making a big assumption if we think that Dajuan isn't jumping after next year. If he doesn't jump, it probably means he hasn't stepped up into the role that we all hope he does.

I will NOT be rooting for Vernon Macklin to succeed at Florida. If he walks onto the court and starts up putting up 20 and 10 and makes All American for the Gators, you'd better believe it reflects badly on the Hoyas. You can't sell it any other way. I don't think that will happen because I think he is what he is and it isn't a huge loss or a big deal for Florida (though I'm sure the media will hype it as a great addition because its Florida he is transferring to). But if it does, it isn't a good reflection on our program's ability to utilize all of its talent.

Haha, ok, I suspect you'll get chewed out for saying it, but it is probably true and I'm sure a lot of us were thinking it. Personally I'm not going to root against him, per se, just going to assume he will have the same struggles at UF that he did here. If he does break out and it makes our staff look bad, hopefully we'll already have some very good big guys of our own (Monroe, Sims) and nobody will pay it much mind.

Come on, give Vern a break, he's the ONLY hamburger kid in his class that isn't in the draft, in the pros or a star. If he had gone to any other Big East school, he wouldn't be going to the Gators, he'd be collecting that 7 figure pay check.
Turnover happens in all programs, JT and Vern weren't a match made in heaven.

Hopefully the 0, 0, and 0 he average next season will give everyone time to forget his mediocre stint with us and will limit how much people compare any success he might have to his time here.

I think he's serious. He legitimately believes that if Vernon Macklin had gone to Providence, he would've been All-Big East 1st team and a lottery pick. In related news, edited - no name calling other posters.

I heard at South Florida, they don't even expect you to make free throws. They just assume you'll make them and add the points on. That would have helped.

He is going to be surprised when he gets to Florida and they expect him to spend a year learning how to shoot a jump shot, dribble the ball with his left hand, and improving his other weaknesses that were the reasons he did not play more minutes at Georgetown. Uptempo or not, no one runs an offense where shooting and handling are unimportant. If he thinks the pressure is off to work on his skills, he will have the same problems.
