Man, after a couple of days of not being able to check the board I find this? An argument on the academic merits of Vernon Macklin transferring to Florida? Quite frankly I'm amazed. Someone needs to take the time and count just how many assumptions there are about Vernon Macklin's personal interests in this thread. Or assumptions in general (ex. money = happiness).
Could we actually let him make a decision based on *gasp* what he views as his own personal interests/goals? Who are you people his mother?

Can someone who saw the Jeremiah Rivers thread before it got locked PM me its contents? Also, Jeremiah's sister plays volleyball at Florida: " He is married to Kristen Rivers and has four children. His oldest son Jeremiah plays basketball for Georgetown University,[2] while his daughter Callie plays volleyball for the University of Florida.[3]" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_RiversJust thought it seemed interesting.

I'm surprised hifi isn't here already, pontificating on the merits of Macklin becoming a Gator, and how much better he would be in that program. For the first and perhaps only time in my life, I'm rooting for Clemson on this one. Ultimately, I hope Macklin prospers wherever he ends up (unless it's at the Hoyas's expense), but Florida would probably be a bit much to stomach. I have intentionally stayed out of this thread on purpose. I wanted to see what your thoughts were on the possibility. What I keep hearing is that it wasn't really a matter of court time at Georgetown or any serious conflicts with anyone else at the Hoya nation. Vern just didn't really like the style of play and didn't think it fit his strengths. In that regard I think he is correct. I keep hearing the same things as far as his favorites now -- Florida and Clemson. I think he would fit in nicely my Gators. My only real question is more of general nature than specifically of Macklin, although it is certainly appropriate in this case. If Vern didn't want to play in that kind of a system, why did he go to Georgetown in the first place? It seems to me that you kind of have a pretty good idea what the program is going to try to do. In a sense, it reminds me of Bo Williams. He was a highly regarded tailback who chose Florida a couple of years back. But prior to this past season, he decided to transfer. He didn't say that it was because of competition or a specific lack of playing time, but rather that he wanted to go to a school that ran a more traditional offense and wanted to be the feature back in an "I" set. Didn't he know what we run on offense? As RDF has pointed out numerous times, we are likely to have trouble landing the top tier tailbacks because of the offense we run. That much isn't a secret. That is why it comes as somewhat of a shock when a kid wants to leave because he doesn't like the system It sure seems like that would have been thought about before.

Vernon has officially announced he's transferring to Florida according to Jeff Goodman and Vernon's former coach--Kevin Keatts.

I interpret an objection to the "style of play" as a euphamism for "I was not able to improve on the weak parts of my game and would rather play someplace that does not expect me to dribble with my left hand or make a ten foot jump shot or any of the other skills that I never needed in AAU ball."

"The ultra-athletic Macklin..."
Ultra, super, hyper, mega athletic! What is this, anime? I feel like they're turning him into a Power Ranger. They're going to be sorely disappointed.

Hope you do well at Florida, Vern, on and off the court. We'll miss you in the coming year.

Good luck to Vern. We shall see how it turns out.
Re: Rivers, I didn't see the thread but I think everybody should just chill on it for the time being. It's not a secret to anybody what the subject matter there is, there is only one topic that could touch off that much interest in our backup point guard in May. Just be patient, obviously nothings definitive otherwise the thread would still be up.

I guess make me 10 on that list.
Also, Hifi, Vernon came to Georgetown when JTIII was still a relatively new coach here (Vern was our first big recruit), so maybe somewhere during the recruiting process Vernon didn't understand what our offense was or something. Although next year I think it will be a little more of what Vernon was expecting, but oh well.
