simple answer: no.....while roy is definitely the best player he most likely won't win it. Everyone is too in love with that man child "Gody"

I don't know how many realistically though Roy could win this award since his statistics would not be anywhere near those of a Hansbrough, Beasley, Durant or Redick.
I think Hansbrough is more valuable than Lawson. Without Lawson, they were 6-1, only losing to Duke. I've got to think they'd be horrendous without Hansbrough's scoring and rebounding.

Hansbrough is a great player. But I'm not sure he's a Top 5 player in the NCAAs.
For certain, give me Beasley and Brook Lopez over him. I think I like Kevin Love better as well.

I think Hansborough is a perfectly defensible pick for POY. He is what he is - a great college basketball player. Many will shortchange him for being a marginal pro prospect, but he is definitely a great college player.
Another great case can be made for Beasley. In my mind, the benefit goes to the upperclassman. I know that a lot of people will give the benefit to the player on the better team, but I think it says more about a player that he has been as successful as he has been without sneaking up on anyone.

Not sure about Hansborough as a marginal pro prospect. I think he'll be a really good 4 at the next level. His jumpshot has really improved this year, which has allowed him to develop his game facing the basket. I think he is also a better athlete than people give him credit for. He gets very good position on defense, and should be able to guard 3s at the next level.

Oh, please. There is nothing wrong with the highest scoring and rebounding player on the #1 team in the country being POY. Sometimes we are just killing other players on other teams for the sake of it, fellas. Come on.

While I am in no way saying Im a Hansbrough fan, I dont know how you can say Lawson is a more important player to that team. Sure, I agree that having a great point guard that controls tempo and manages the game can be the most important part of a team, without a doubt, but I think Lawson is just as overrated as anyone out there and without Hansbrough the heels wouldnt have any significant low post scorer.

For college POY, he is as deserving as anyone else
As a pro, Psycho T= Slightly better Mark Madsen

Hansbrough is a defendable choice. Just not mine.
He's more athletic than people give him credit for. It's actually his skill level I question -- he won't be able to bull people over so it is hard to find a comparable. I wouldn't be shocked to see him be more of an effort guy -- Varejao or something.

Breaking news out of DC is that Roy Hibbert is BubbRubbHoya's POY. More on public reaction later.

You know what sucks? Not having Jason Thompson on our team. It's too bad, seeing as how he's a "dominant" big man for RYDER and a third team All American, according to SI.

Assume for a minute that POY is given based purely on statistical output. Beasley leads Psycho-T in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks, despite the fact that K-State plays at a (slightly) slower pace than UNC. However, Beasley also takes a much higher percentage of K-State's shots (35.2%) than Hansbrough takes for the Heels (24.7%). What do the statheads on the board think: is the more effective player (Hansbrough) more deserving of POY, or should the guy who puts more points on the board, while still being very effective himself (Beasley) get the nod?
Personally, I think it's Beasley. Offensive production is pretty much a wash. But Beasley still does more than Hansbrough on the boards. He still gets more good looks for his teammates. And (although I haven't seen enough of either player this season to say this definitively) Beasley seems to be the better player on defense as well.
We could argue for days about the meaning of subjective criteria for selecting POY such as "value to his team," "putting his team in a position to win," or "value of senior leadership." But going on numbers alone I think Beasley has to win the award.

beasley leads the nation in rebounds and is top 5 in scoring. as a freshman. and has 25(?) double-doubles. hansbrough is on a great team, sure, but beasley SINGLEHANDEDLY has resurrected k-state. you think they're beating kansas without beasley? or staying competitive against texas for 30 minutes? with the other freshman, walker, shooting a magnificent 0-14?
conversely, hansbrough faces duke, their toughest opponent all year, and UNC loses... COME ON. beasley in a landslide. shouldn't even be a question.

But going on numbers alone I think Beasley has to win the award. you also have to consider that there are lots of opportunities for scoring and rebounds when the rest of your teammates aren't very good. if they switched teams, i think their numbers would be even more comparable than they already are. last year with durant, no one else really jumped out, except maybe hansbrough. this year, with stats that are pretty comprarable, i'd give the nod to the guy playing on the better team, the better leader and the older player. all of these criteria point to hansbrough. keep in mind also, unc's sos rank is 5, while kansas state's sos rank is 19.
