Can anyone explain how Tennessee is no 1 in RPI and no 15 in Pomeroy? I know they are not the same calculation, but that is a pretty staggering disparity for the no 2 team in the polls. Although still not as big a difference as Vandy (no 10 RPI, no 47 Pomeroy), I suppose. I thought maybe the SEC is rated very differently by the two, but RPI has them at 5, KenPom at 6. The Big 12 also has some unusual difference- KSU is 6 in KenPom v. 30 RPI, Texas A&M 19 in KenPom, 38 RPI. I can field the Vandy disparity. Pomeroy uses an advanced matrix incorporating numerous variables. One of them happens to be the degree to which your fan base makes unfounded, ridiculous claims that "but for" a single non-call in the waning seconds of a game you would have been NCAA champions. The more message boards you go on seeking sympathy, the lower your Pomeroy ranking.* *Their ranking would be much lower, but it is evened out by the "hotness" quotient of the student body.

In that case, though, shouldn't Syracuse be down around 100, since their fans whine about everything? Wasn't aware that the Vandy student body had a high hotness quotient.

After I blew out my knee after the Ohio State game and I went to an emergency room in one of the Atlanta suburbs, I did get treated by a very attractive female doctor who went to Vandy.

Therefore, they get a huge bump in the standings for beating the best. Dems the breaks.

i can also, but ill ad that their incredible low IQ quotient really impacts the rating too, and if any of you are vandy alums (that would be wierd) or are involved with a vandy girl or guy i have no problem if i have offended you because really i cant believe some of those girls got into college

Yeah, I am selling on Stanford. IMO, all the teams in the Pac 10 are somewhat inflated by the absurdity of Arizona. Because Arizona has played AND LOST to everyone, they are hanging around the top 15 of the RPI all year long. Stanford has benefited from playing the easier part of their schedule earlier. I said this last week, but the rest of their games are very tough. I wouldnt be surprised if they fell off the map to some extent. That has started already with a loss to ASU. It gets tougher with them still having to go to Arizona, USC and UCLA. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I keep hearing how the Pac 10 is clearly the best conference and then the BE. I just don't see it. I think the BE is better to begin with. The fact that there are 16 teams only makes it moreso. I am "selling" on all Pac 10 teams except for UCLA. Given the success that UCLA has had the past couple of seasons, I expect they will once again make a serious run in March. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them as the lone west coast team in the Sweet 16, much less the elite 8. I haven't been that impressed with Washington St. and Stanford is suspect as well.

I can attest to the hottness to the Vandy student body. No argument here My best friend lives in Nashville and it is a very pleasant campus to observe ... for lack of a better word.

I hope none of you would say that GU girls have low IQ quotients.

have you ever been to vandy?? really you should go sometime and talk to some of them. they maybe able to study for a test and pass, but asked them who the president was before clinton or who the secretary of state is. GU and Vandy are considered similar academically and there are a lot of kids there that are smart, but not the hot sorority girls. i think the comparison comes from how these kids do in high school and seeing as GU and Vandy have kids from basically the same high schools that is where it comes from. and there are some (few) people (girls and guys) at GU who can study for a test and do great but the depth is just not there or the working knowledge of world. there are people like this at every school and there are exceptions the other way too (like really smart, deep people that go to less well regarded schools for various reasons). a few notes to this: i have visited vandy and met many many people there and have a very close female friend and an ex girlfriend there that fall into this category. even though i have met many people in this category at vandy, i can not say that this is characteristic of the entire student body, that would just be stupid and there are also tons of very smart educated people at that school (they just happen not to be the ones bringing up the hotness quotient up so much. i dont think that being hot necessarily makes you stupid (i look to myself as an example of that but that is just my opinion) i dont think that this only applies to women, so no one think that i am a sexist. finally i think that this is more reflective a general trend in our public and private schools away from learning, knowledge, and scholarship and towards test taking and grade padding
people are probably going to start yelling at me now, but i stand by everything i said

What are the chances that hifi knows this best friend only by the name "NashvilleGator", and has never actually met him in person?

Returning to the thread topic, I love how we can move from 11th to 10th during a day off!

Returning to the thread topic, I love how we can move from 11th to 10th during a day off! Someone actually did answer my original question. Is has to do with the efficiency ratings being adjusted for level of competition. Either someone on our schedule had a good game or an oppononent of whoever dropped had a bad game. dTRAIN

No argument here My best friend lives in Nashville and it is a very pleasant campus to observe ... for lack of a better word. What are the chances that hifi knows this best friend only by the name "NashvilleGator", and has never actually met him in person? Nice try, but he was my best man 18 plus years ago. I probably spent more awake hours over at his place than I did my own when I was in high school. And no, I am relatively certain he doesn't frequent your board.
