Over the course of the last few months I've pre-set my DVR to record anything with the keyword "Georgetown". Now, in addition to having a great archive of all the amazing finishes this year... i've got a handful of games that have been broadcast on ESPN Classic. Here are a few:
Georgetown/UNC - (1982) - Great game. Several future NBS Hall of Famers. Everyone knows how this one ended.
Georgetown/Syracuse - (1985) - Regular season game at the Carrier Dome where the Hoyas lose a tight one. One of our three losses that year.
Georgetown/Villanova - (1985) - The NCAA Finals... we all know how this ended as well.
Georgetown/Providence - Hoyas lose to the Friars in the Final 8 and Mourning and Charles Smith go down.
Georgetown/Mich St - Skyles torches the Hoyas in a tournament loss.
Georgetown/BC - (1991 i think) - Alonzo Mourning battles all game long... scores 30 plus points in a loss to the Eagles.
Georgetown/Providence (1996) - God Shamgod and the rest of the Friars play the game of their life and beat Iverson, Page, Othella, Boubacar, Williams and others and beat the hoyas in a game that was never even that close.
Georgetown/UCON (1996 BET Finals) - This one I simply cannot get myself to watch.... we get outscored 12-0 to lose the game by 1 on a twisting leaping Leena by Ray Allen.
Georgetown/Florida - 2006 - Hoyas play Florida better than any other team in the tourney...but come up short.
They have yet to show a single game where Georgetown wins. I am just so sick and tired of all the Hoya Haters out there. People like nothing more than to watch the Hoyas lose. Unless ESPN Classic turns last year's Georgetown/UNC game into an instant classic soon... they are going lose my viewership!!!!

Your Tivo must have missed the Cuse game at USelessAir Arena from 1995 that they played 2 days ago. A one point loss that should have been 4 were it not for an amazing 3 at the buzzer by Iverson.
Either that or you told it to only record 9 Georgetown losses.

Georgetown/Providence - Hoyas lose to the Friars in the Final 8 and Mourning and Charles Smith go down. If its a Final 8 game it was in '87 and that's two years before Mourning's arrival (you may be thinking of Reggie Williams). At least there's MASN Classics in which the games are shown in their entirety.

Its just insane!!! I mean show me a little Ohio St./Georgetown circuit 2006. Show me Georgetown/Vandi...show me Ewing/Olajuwon. I guess part of the problem is that if we are favored to win a game and we do... it has little reason to ever become a classic. That said, we have several good wins where we were the dog... see Georgetown/Duke 2006.

I'm quite certain showing Duke losses is in violation of a number of different agreements that ESPN has entered into. Just off the top of my head I'd have to figure that is a clause in Dukie V's contract.

I saw a game prior to our game with Pitt on Big Monday that was 1986 Hoyas beating Pitt in BET Quarters 57-56.
Hoyas had a different version of their Nike Terminators on as well--they were SICK!

A few nights ago (might have been MASN but I believe it was classic) they showed a 1984 Georgetown-SJU regular season game at the capital centre. Needless to say we lost that game (they do seem to never show wins). Think it was the one when Mullin went for 33.

Let's face it...up until only recently most of the college basketball universe hated us. Now everyone loves the brand of basketball we play and our man JTIII. We were arguably the most dominant team of the 1980's and dominated in an intimidating manner. Let's say we were the anti-Duke. We were led by the evil John Thompson Jr, while the likes of Duke and UNC were led by Coach K and Deano. Any time we lost it was a pretty big deal and wins didn't really matter to the general public because they were somewhat expected AND no one liked us and I think that bias still holds true on the nationally broadcast ESPN Classic.
I think we usually see preferred sports programming nationally in reverse, with national favorites being televised (Notre Dame football, Cowboys games, UNC or Duke games) as opposed to playing losses of the teams people like to hate. I agree that it's pretty bush league, but at the end of the day I don't really care. If anything it makes me love the Hoyas even more and make the smile on my face even bigger when we win and give the rest of the hoops world a huge figurative middle finger.

I think if we had Pat Jr. for the full 4 years, more teams would hate us now. He definitely likes to mix it up, do some jawing, and maybe push a guy at just about every game. Oh, and if he gives up a steal, he practically tackles the poor guy out on the break. Not a criticism at all. I think we NEED someone with the kind of swagger sometimes. But there's definitely still a market out there for hating the current Hoyas. Also, the more teams we beat by "questionable" (aka "difficult but correct") calls, the more that'll build.

Sometimes paranoia is the answer.
ESPN is chock full of Syracuse grads from their admittedly excellent broadcasting school. Unlike some more recent grads, most of them are quite clear as to who their most hated rival is.
Simply put, they like watching us lose.

Syracuse grads from their admittedly excellent whoa, whoa, whoa. stop RIGHT THERE! unless there is a smily face or something following a statement like that, this type of pro-orange comment should get your posting priveledges suspended. where are the admins??? i too have the georgetown tivo wish programed in (love the home show about georgetown SC that i got as a result) and I have the 96 bet game on there, i have started to watch it 3 times but couldnt get to the opening tip without turning it off and going to do something more fun like clean the kitchen, too painful still, maybe i will exorcise some demons by watching but i am afraid i will just be depressed for a week instead. i watched most of the Providence game from 96, i had completely blocked that out of my memory, i dont recall that game at all even after watching it recently, and i was an undergrad at the time, strange. also it wasnt much of a "classic," kind of a crappy game i thought and it didnt mean anything in the context of the season either so what was the point of showing it?

When we win that national championship in the next 5 years, that better be on there as the game that cemented our return to glory.

If they can play the Providence game (which was totally meaningless), they should absolutely play games like the BET Georetown/Syracuse game where Braswell and the #8 Hoyas beat down the #1 seed.
Embrace the Hate!

The use of the word "admittedly" indicates that I would rather not say anything positive about the orange. Would it help if I told you that when I screen resumes that I automatically toss any resume with a Syracuse connection? ;D

Could the fact that it was a CBS telecast have anything to do with it? Seems like ESPN Classic has kind of frozen their catalog to ESPN-only broadcasts for the more recent games.

Since I rarely watch ESPN, I did not know that so many of their new talking heads were from Cuse. The Cuse broadcasting school must have fallen off bigtime. Mike Terico is a pro, but those guys on ESPN News are just pathetic. Cuse should rescind their diplomas.
