Hey all... As some of you who know me know, I've become very involved over the last year with a non-profit organization called Students Helping Honduras. It's a small, young organization founded by some friends of mine, but we're doing some pretty big things. After taking a trip down to Honduras last summer, I decided to bring the organization to Georgetown this year. I led a trip down there over winter break (with fellow HoyaTalker HfieldHoya08) and I'm going back again for spring break (with Hoyatalker vcjack and several other HB/pep band members).
Each spring SHH finds a cause that is in great need, and spends the spring fundraising for that cause, and then spends the balance of the year (or as long as it takes) to make sure that the money raised is used wisely and that our goals are accomplished. This year, our cause is transitional housing and educational scholarships for the girls at the orphanage that we work with, and so we're beginning the fundraising process for that.
Right now, we are in a contest called "America's Giving Challenge", and the 4 causes that get the most $10 online donations win $50,000, plus the sum of the donations. We have had a huge surge thanks to a lot of hard-working and generous people, and are currently in 4th. BUT, our lead is narrow, and we need to hold the spot (or move higher) until 3pm tomorrow when the contest ends. If any of you could help us out on that front, we would all really appreciate it.

The $10 donations, up to $10,000 go to the stove project listed, a sort of side project we've taken on. The entire $50,000 if we win it, plus the balance of the donations, will go to supporting the orphan girls and giving them a real chance to succeed when they come of age and have to leave the orphanage. When the time comes to leave the orphanage, all these girls have are the clothes on their backs, literally. And as a result many of them end up living on the streets, working in brothels, or stuck back in the same poverty from which they came. But they are some of the sweetest people you could meet and I love them like sisters. Oh, and they are big Georgetown fans. Don't believe me?

We very much appreciate any help that any of you might be able to give us. God Bless.
(PS-just to clarify and be sure that I'm in compliance board rules, this is just a message to let people know about a group at Georgetown and what's going on with us, not a solicitation
