Ok, I've been having a real problem trying to get these silly things from Comcast, which I need in order to actually be able to use my HD Tivo. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any recommendations or solutions?

Oh, I thought you made a typo and meant cable cars, since you were going to San Francisco. Never mind.

I love our DirecTv, but the house we bought last year (more precisely, all of the neighbors' trees) prevents us from getting anything more than the basic signal, i.e. no HD content from DirecTv. Right now we have DirecTv and an OTA HD signal both going into the DVR, but I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and switch to Comcast so we get ESPN HD, etc.
From what I've heard, some people have had to go to the local Comcast office and actually get the cards from the office. Other people have had the techs comes out but make the customer actually put the cards in the Tivo. It really seems to be on a case by case basis.
Technically, there's no reason you can't get two cards from Comcast. However, as with most things in life, the practical truth is a lot different.
How big of a TiVo did you get? I like the option of being able to add on an external HD for extra capacity.

Speaking of Comcast and Tivo, any word if and when the long awaited Comcast DVR with Tivo software will be available? I fear that this deal is dead and that I'm stuck with this crap DVR from Comcast but I'm holding out some hope.

KC -- I just got the standard Series 3 HD one -- they offered a deal to future Mrs. Tables, who is a current Tivo lifetime customer, that she could get a lifetime membership on an HD one, so we took advantage of it. I'm not sure how much it holds, but seeing that Tivo consistently maintains almost 100 "suggestions" in addition to what I am recording, it certainly holds more than my prior Replay TVs did. Perhaps that will start to change when I start recording GU games in HD.
I actually found the Comcast corporate number and called to complain about the inability of Comcast to get the darn cards to me, and I should be getting them sometime today or tomorrow. The joys of the internet . . . it really does help in these situations!
