. . .I think I have no choice but to vote for Rudy. tinyurl.com/2few6ePretty funny article in the WaPost, even if most of these stories are fairly well known by now. Candidates on both sides just not reading the lyrics. But song meanings aside, of all of the truly abysmal tunes these campaigns are choosing, Giuliani is the only one who has picked one that's not just tolerable, but one of the best Clash songs ever. On edit: OK, Aretha and U2 aren't bad either, so some credit to Obama & Edwards. And what's so wrong with drinkin' brew for breakfast? Frankly, I think prefer that in a politician. ;D

As a fanatical devotee of all things Clash, I take enormous offense to ANYONE co-opting any song by the Greatest Band of All Time, let alone some political hack who bangs his cousins and (I can only imagine) ruined the NYC the Clash would have known and loved. Somewhere out in the cosmos, John Mellor is shocked and appalled...
EDIT: ... and Boz, from someone who'd understand "Who cares about all the starving people you see in the street each day," I'd expect more from you.

If Rudy starts wearing a chicken skin suit and a pork-pie hat, then he gets my vote.

And I do include Rudy in that, despite him choosing the only song I like of all the rest. You can be appalled all you want. I'm more appalled at the banality across the board. Why didn't Edwards go with "Clampdown," huh? Or at the very least he could've picked "The Bottom Line," by Big Audio Dynamite. ( - thought you'd appreciate that one, Buffalo.) I am officially announcing my vote is for sale. The first candidate who plays any New Order song (except Bizarre Love Triangle or Shellshock) or the William Shatner-Joe Jackson version of "Common People" (there's another good one for Edwards, but Hillary can't use it for obvious Bill-related reasons) will get my vote.

If ANYONE plays a song by Shatner or any other bad-actor-turned-singer (I'm obviously thinking Hasslehoff here) I will vote for them.
"C'mon and jump in my car..."

To continue with the Clash, I would love one of them to adopt my favorite Clash song, death or Glory. Let's see them explain away some of those lyrics.
Then of course, you guys may remember when Bush the elder was president and he took a trip to a grocery store and was amazed at the new-fangled cash registers, etc.? He took a lot of heat for having no connection with the common folks. Well, I bring this up because he was obviously Lost in the Supermarket. (I know...ugh).

I think I just heard a car crash outside the office... Good call on "Death or Glory." "Every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world / and ends up making payments on a sofa and a girl." Easily applies to... well... all of 'em. I'd suggest "I'm Not Down" for McCain. I think it applies on so many levels. But then again, I still maintain no politician is Clash-worthy.

" "Every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world / and ends up making payments on a sofa and a girl." Interesting bit o' trivia -- Clash-admirers Rancid borrow this line in their song "Brad Logan." Lars sings "Every crimmin' hood make a bargain with the world/Seats are successive when you're shot to the curb" similarly to the way Joe sings it on Death or Glory.

OK, I am not going to apologize for this because (A) it's Friday afternoon; (B) I finished two major projects this week; and (C) I haven't been able to take a day off in three months, except for Christmas Eve (and one sick day - but I was REALLY sick), so I've earned a little goofing-off time.
In deference to the all-hallowed Clash, I have avoided that seminal band that changed the landscape of music as we know it in favor of another group of Brits who did just the same.
(and I have tried to be fair, but I really do hate Hillary....)
My All-New Order Campaign Theme Songs:
Blue Monday For Hillary Clinton, a finger-in-the-wind politician just like her husband: “I thought I was mistaken/I thought I heard your words/Tell me how do I feel/Tell me now how do I feel”
Your Silent Face For Rudy Giuliani, who seems to have forgotten that this campaign started some time ago: “No hearing or breathing/No movement, no colors/Just silence”
Vanishing Point For Barack Obama, who has to be a little surprised at his own success, but not at all surprised at the Clinton attacks: “I've seen what a man can do/I've seen all the hate of a woman, too.”
Ceremony For Mitt Romney, who "tailors" his message quite often: “This is why events unnerve me/They find it all, a different story/Notice whom for wheels are turning/Turn again and turn towards this time”
State Of The Nation For John Edwards, who is staking his candidacy on midnight in America: “Oh, the state of the nation/Is causing deprivation”
Sooner Than You Think For Mike Huckabee, the unique combination of a Christian conservative AND a populist, but still in over his head: “Before you stands one like your brother/Swear to God he needs no other/But how can I afford to be/Here with you so carelessly”
Fine Time For Fred Thompson, or -- more appropriately -- for Fred and Mrs. Thompson: “You're much too young/You're much too young/You're much too young/To mess around with me.”
And, last but not least....
Love Vigilantes For John McCain, for obvious reasons: “Oh I've just come/From the land of the sun/From a war that must be won/In the name of truth/With our soldiers so brave/Your freedom we will save/With our rifles and grenades/And some help from God.”

Nice work boz. If you were running I'd vote for you just based on that post alone.

Excellent work, Boz.
If only Bill was running again - we would be able to add "Age of Consent" just based on the title!
