I'll preempt hifi. In case you didn't hear, Tebow won the heisman. Congrats. Now go pad your stats against scUM jorts wearer! Did you know that he was the first underclassman to ever win the award? I thought so.

This isn't meant as a bashing of Florida, however.......
Did you know that 12 UF football players have been arrested in the last year?
Wonder how the UF juggernaut recruits so well? California JC WR recruit Carl Moore committed to the Gators this past weekend. He's the #1 JC recruit in country (supposedly) and amazingly his girlfriend is going to get a UF Gymnastics scholarship and end up in Gainesville with him. I'm sure it's simply an odd coincedence.
I realize that many programs are dirty. I realize that many kids get arrested for same things that normal population does. I realize that only Ohio State has more money in their athletic budget then Florida.
However---when someone comes on here and preaches the "high and mighty" and always DEFENDS the Gators when discussions are about other programs troubles, arrests of his Gators, has the nerve to share a fable about Sean Taylor on day of his death, and acts as if the Gators don't have to cheat to compete in the $ec--and believe me that "$" isn't a typo---I thought these two FACTS were interesting to bring to table in dicussion about the "Mighty Gators".

Actually RDF, I haven't now or ever defended errant Gators. I have at times said that Gator infractions paled in comparison to FSU's for example, but that still doesn't make it "OK."
How serious is throwing a sandwich or empty plastic cup at someone? Probably not very, but that still doesn't justify the action in any case.
As to the Taylor incident, I am NOT going to dredge that up again. As best as we both know, the act was in fact a random burglary gone bad. Case closed. As for the "fable," I am still amazed that you find it hard to believe that someone who knew him in college would suggest that because of his acquaintances, a tragedy such as this was not totally shocking. Virtually every media, ran stories of that sort, whether rightly or wrongly. In any case, that issue is done.
As to the Juco guy, I have heard really good things about his talent. I haven't heard/read anything on his character. Do you have something in particular you would like to share?
As for the scholarship of his girlfriend, I can only take your word for it. If that is true then there may very well have been some pressure from the football program to the gymnastics program to offer her a scholly. Then again, maybe she too is a top notch athlete. Who else was recruiting her? I am not denying anything, I just don't know any specifics. Even if such pressure was given by the football program, is that wrong? I don't know any NCAA rule against such, but there might be.
A lot of players will pressure schools to take their friend as well. Does it really matter if the friend is female?
Once again this looks like you exercising any opportunity to try to slam me or my first University.

I hadn't heard Dorrell's name specifically, but I keep hearing that they would really like to hire a minority coach because of the racial lingerings from the lacrosse incident. That seems kind of backwards to me, but that's just me.

I haven't heard anything definitive since then, but I was out at the lake all weekend -- no internet and very little television.

hey, hifi, thanks for starting the coaching carousel thread, and then mixing it with this thread. Nicely done. ;D
As I mentioned on the other thread, Dorrell was apparently seen on the Duke campus. I hope he gets the job. He certainly wasn't the greatest coach, but I understand he's a really good person.

touche' rooter. I do think there are more than enough openings, interviews, hirings, rumors etc. to justify a dedicated thread, but for some reason the typical group of malcontents offer instinctual resistence, since it was my suggestion. I'll play along either way, here or there.

Hifi, is it true that Urban Meyer is going to take Tim Tebow's father along with him for the in-home visit with highly acclaimed HS Linebacker Recruit Arthur Brown? I've read he's doing it to show the Brown family how "spiritual" UF is--and Brown family is deeply religious. I also didn't realize that Papa Tebow is connected to the Athletic Program/FB Program as a "spiritual advisor"--since it's illegal to bring a parent/booster along on a visit--but that Urban finds the loopholes and exploits them quite well--touche to UF on this--but I still think Brown ends up at UNC or Miami.

I haven't heard any mention of it, but that sounds like a good idea. I don't know too much about the particular recruiting rules. There is a big ad campaign down here "ask before you act," specifically promoting awareness of recruiting rules. In any case, if there is a provision for associates of the athletic program to be allowed on a recruiting trip and if a spiritual advisor is on such position then I think that makes a lot of sense. Granted, teams could exploit that "loophole," but at least in his case, it's the real deal. I have some very anti-religious friends. I say that not because they are simply unreligious. They take it farther and almost resent religion and religious people. But to a man they have acknowledged guys like Danny Wuerrfel and the Tebow family. They point out that there are lots of religious mouthpieces out there, but that these guys are the real deal. In Danny's case, he goes into one of the poorest parts of the Country, in the ninth ward in New Orleans. He didn't parlay his fame into some cushy speaking circuit, traveling the world. No, he went into help people who legitimately need help. The same is true of the Tebows. They were missionaries in the Philipines and still have an outreach there. Then Tim's brother-in-law and family are living in Bangledesh, again going to help people in true need. The point is that Papa Tebow is a legitimate spiritual leader. But as to your question, I haven't heard anything specific.

Petrino to Arkansas doesn't really surprise me - especially not if he didn't even bother to tell his current players.
