You know the Orioles' pitching is struggling when... You face arguably the worst team in the AL, lead 3-0 after three giving up only one hit....and proceed to lose 30-3, which is the most runs allowed in the modern era of baseball. The 27 run margin is the most since 1882. scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=270822201

NFL season must have started early in Baltimore. But if this does in fact turn out to be a real baseball game I will feel justified in betting on a 25+ spread in the future

The immortal Kason Gabbard (6 and a third, 3 earned runs) never got this kind of support from the Red Sox.

I just wonder if any O's fan was wearing a rally cap for the 9th?

I just wonder if any O's fan was wearing a rally cap for the 9th? I think paper bags with eyeholes would have been much more appropriate. Although- after 30 runs- maybe the eyeholes can be optional.

As someone else posted on their blog, what would this game have been like if Teixeira was still at Texas?

I just wonder if any O's fan was wearing a rally cap for the 9th? It was game 1 of a legit doubleheader (none of this day-night nonsense) so there were probably more O's fans left around than there would have been otherwise.

Meh.
If you're gonna' give up 27 runs, you might as well give up 30 and make history.

I just don't understand how something like this could happen. why would you keep swinging for the fences if you were texas. after being up like 20 to 3 at least i think i'd try and get out so i could go home. I don't think i'd find any pleasure from contiinuing to score runs.

There are numerous ways you can pull back on the throttle in baseball (not stealing or taking extra bases on passed balls/bobbled balls, for example), but trying to get out isn't one of them. And I doubt hitters are going to want to change their approach if it's working.

Back in the summer of 2002, I watched the Sox beat the Rays 22-4 in the top half of a double-header. Never thought I would ever see anything as wacky ever again.
PS Two things came out of that game:
1. That is the game where the Sox began their ownership of Mr. Tanyon Sturtze. The fact that any manager ever trotted him out against the Sox (cough cough Torre cough cough) again was just mindboggling. He never recovered.
2. That was the start of the seemingly inexplicable bad blood between the Rays and the Sox that has resulted in more beanings, ejections and benchclearing brawls than any Sox-Yankees series in the last 5-years.
