www.gatorsportsforum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=185060Feel free to ignore this story if you don't care about it. I just wanted you all to see that I am not a head in the sand Gator living where the sky is always blue. Brandon Powell and Brandon James were arrested and charged with purchasing marijuana, which is a third degree felony in Florida.

Personally, I would like to see officers make better use of their time and our money than running a reverse sting netting guys busted for purchasing a joint or two. Somehow that just doesn't seem worthwhile, regardless of whether they are Gator players or not.

I just like how HiFi gives us the old high and mighty schpeel about how he isn't above criticizing his own program, then immediately responds to his own post and rips on the police methods used to catch these two gators.

There is a case before the court where a judge is suing a laundry company for somewhere around $50Million for losing his pants. Seems like a good precedent for these two Gators.

Touche' For the record, I think most know how I feel with regards to marijuana laws. I think it should be regulated and taxed just like alcohol and tobacco, which are far more of a social burden than pot. That being said, we do have laws and until we get them changed then we have to abide by them. I also think that student-athletes who are being given a free education as well as the opportunity to showcase their talents and potentially earn millions as a professional should appreciate it enough to not risk it all for some weed. I am not in any way judging the action as being "wrong" morally, but rather pointing out the logic of self control in such a situation.

Proof? Alcohol and tobacco impose social burdens, but what data could you possibly offer to support an allegation that they impose "far more" social burdens than marijuana? False statement. You've been lawyered. [Please take this over to the Blue & Gray board.--Admin]

Tables, one quick comment and then we can discuss it further in the B&G board.
Granted, if pot were legal then we might see dramatic increases in social costs due to pot use and since it's illegal then the numbers might be unfairly supressed. But as it is, there is no denying the costs of tabacco, with lung cancer being in the top three causes of premature death. And few would argue that tobacco use is primarily responsible for such cases. As for alcohol, again the social costs are readily apparent. Motor vehicle accidents and resulting damage and injuries are the most obvious, but alcoholism has many other costs as well, from broken families to drunken and disorderly behavior. Conversely, the main social impact of pot use seems to be an increase in appetite and apathy. 'Nuff for now. Off to the B&G...

Incidentally, in the article in today's paper, they listed the amount of marijuana as 8 grams, not .8 grams. If that's accurate then at least they had some significant amount of weed.
On a related note, they should have been spooked when they were able to buy 8 grams for $20. Either the weed is really bad or there is something fishy going on.
