Out here in CA, I only get three games on most Sundays: 49ers, Raiders and the Sunday night game. That's one game on Fox, one on CBS and one on NBC. Nothing else. If those teams should play each other...or play in Sun night game or MNF...I get two games. For example last week, after the niners sucked donkeyballs against the packers....we got "5th Quarter Coverage" on Fox for the next two hours dissecting the loss. After the Raiders dropped a turd on CBS...I got the same talky talky talky. Didn't matter that the Broncos were playing the Chargers, TN and Houston were engaged in an awesome OT...nothing. Never. Back east, they at least usually gave you 1PM/4PM starts for both CBS and Fox + the night game = 5 games to flip through. Instead, I have to hit a sports bar or suffer through the niners or raiders with no recourse. I hate CA and their soft sports scene.
They deserve the Giants, the Niners, the Raiders, the Warriors, etc. Bad fans, bad media, bad teams...makes sense.

Yeah, Cambridge...add to that the 10am Sunday morning kick-offs and 75 degree Christmas Days and my three years in CA felt more like time spent in make-believe land.
The USC Trojans football team has been the best pro team in California for the last 5 years.
Oh, and GO HOYAS!!!

Been tired of the teflon league for five or so years. bad games, bad teams, too much hype. If it was another sport talk radio nation would destroy its quality, its players, its over-the-top promotion, its increasing presence on TV during all seven days of the week, etc. But since most Americans are not only drinking the kool-aid but mixing it and pouring it into the glass as well, people ignore all the game's flaws. Frankly I am sick of it and all of its 15 hours worth of pregame programming every Sunday.

Frankly I am sick of it and all of its 15 hours worth of pregame programming every Sunday. Don't forget there's also "Football Night in America" once the afternoon games are over. It's the show for people who are too busy watching NFL football/football-related shows to eat dinner with their families. Once again, I think NFL-created parity is partially what's hurting the pregame programming. Who wants to hear a preview of a game between two teams that have hovered around .500 all season? Rarely is there a "big game" between two clearly good teams for the talking heads to overanalyze anymore.

The NFL is summed up by having "RomoSexuals" taking on the "Homosexual" QB for a Division title and title of "best game manager" which basically means--we don't try to score/make plays, we just don't screw up as bad as the other guy. For Madden to say "isn't this great, having Eagles and Cowboys fighting it out and not two bad teams" was comical. Everyone in the NFC is a flawed team--and I'd say 4 of the 6 are bad teams. I credit Jim Johnson for the turnaround and using his bad LB's blitzing instead of sitting back and getting pummeled like Jersey Trash Parcells does. To me, the NFL gets worse as parity dominates and only reason it's ignored is due to the phenomenon of Fantasy Football and of course gambling. Fantasy football has hidden the awful play that is in the league--you actually watch games or follow them due to helping you in a pool/league and not because you think it's a quality product. To me I'm glad I ate after the Boys-Eagles game because that crap made me sick--bad football played by a mediocre team and an overrated piece of garbage (Dallas). Happy that Joe Hoya had a good X-Mas but makes me question McNabb's importance even more-- So with Boys having "Romosexuals" will everyone in Philly be HOMOS FOR GAYCIA now??

I am sick of the NFL, but for entirely different reasons than most of you, mostly because of ESPN. Nothing angers me more than having to sit through reports on voluntary mini-camp or whatever in the middle of baseball season.

This thread is a joke. I guarantee everyone that is in this thread sits down every Sunday at 1 and in most cases never moves from their couch. I will concede to the argument that the product or marque matchups are not as exciting as in years past but for anyone to say they are "sick" of the NFL is simply a lie.
As a sport fan, which we all are, what would you rather watch?? MLB? It excites people to watch teams spend 125+ million a year and play the Royals ot TB? The NHL is practically at the same level as MLS. The NBA, who is sitting down at night watching Magic v Bucks??
Excluding Boz and Buffalo, who I know are huge hockey fans, if you have a choice between the 4 major sports to choose a game to watch that you have no personal rooting interest in - what would it be?
The NFL may have it's problems but compared to the other major sports there nothing.
No one is sick of the NFL and if they are for some strange reason you keep watching because the ratings have never been better.

On the other hand, some of us hate lame hot stove news in the middle of the winter. ;D To each his own.

This thread is a joke. I guarantee everyone that is in this thread sits down every Sunday at 1 and in most cases never moves from their couch. I lie. Perhaps its your post that's a joke. I have gone over five years from doing the very thing you assume we all do on Sunday. I tend to catch highlights of the NFL action (even though I do less of that these days too) and/or watch recordings later on in the day if there is a Redskins game I'm interested in. That's it. At one time I was so into the NFL I knew the beginning season starting rosters of almost every team. Now...I can only tell you the starting lineup of the Redskins. Maybe. Don't speak for all of us. Ratings keep getting better and better for junk like "American Idol" and all that other reality TV nonsense too. Guess what? I never watch Idol I haven't paid any serious attention to any reality TV since the early years of MTV's "The Real World". I have a brain and think for myself and do not follow the masses. I tend to see NFL fans as a bunch of zombies who have bought into the hard sell of the game and therefore ignore its countless flaws. Good for them.

MCI my apologies enjoy your Lifetime movies on Sunday.
Also I love the countless flaws remark. What professional sport is better structured than the NFL, please enlighten me. I am not saying it doesn't have it's own problems but in comparison to all other professional sports it is head and shoulders above the rest.
However maybe you do have a point. What an absurd concept are you saying they actually promote their product and in some cases go over the top on their promotions??? Hey welcome to America, what "seller" doesn't do the exact same thing with the resources they have??
News Flash: They have now recently installed a on/off button on TV's which seems new to you. You don't like 15 hours of pre-game hype don't watch, I don't. I tune in at 12:55 and simply enjoy watching football. If that makes me a "zombie" so be it.

MCI my apologies enjoy your Lifetime movies on Sunday. Yeah, the old tired rebuttal about not being a man if you are not engrossed in football. Very original. That would be a matter of opinion anyway, right? But that was not my point in the first place. My stance is that its an overhyped product. I'm sorry the thought of that offends you. Not in terms of quality of games and post season play. Its simply the favorite of most Americans. Period. Which is why so much of American television is unwatchable. Its more about selling something than the quality of the product/show/game you're watching. No thanks. News flash. I don't watch at all so I no longer worry about it. But if you're enjoying it then so be it. What does it matter if others of us don't. Seriously why are NFL fans so insecure and can't stand it when someone questions the "greatness" of their favorite pasttime?

I love baseball as much as the next guy, but I'm glad I live in the west where I can watch 4 1/2 hour playoff games and still get 6 hours of sleep before going to work the next day.

The breaks in the action in the NFL are due to the networks, not the game itself. There is no football reason why I should sit through a commercial break following the 6-10 Vikings' fourth quarter touchdown "drive" to pull within 27, watch the Rams recover the onsides kick, only to have to then watch more commercials. At least when Mike Mussina throws over to first four times in a row, he is trying to accomplish something related to the game.

Does Winnipeg have the talent to win the Lady Bing this year? Is Gretzky going to win the Conne Smythe? Is Lemeiux playing again? How many hockey teams are there in California and Florida combined? 9? 11? 7? Hockey no mas.
MLS...yeeeeeaaaah. Real Sat Lake? FC Some Other American City? Come on. I have more interest in the Brazilian National Team than the domestic league.
NBA? Stop. Don't even try. Seriously. No, seriously. College basketball. College basketball. Say it out loud. No NBA.
Baseball and football. That's all. Both are flawed, both are fantastic.

(1) I'm not sick of the NFL, I'm just bored with it. (2) Sitting on your butt to watch anything doesn't make you a man. Whoever started that stereotype was probably fat and unathletic. (3) The problem with sports aren't the sports themselves, it's all the pseudo-analytical, pop culture, marketing-advertising-profit mongering that goes on around them. (4) Football is a fun, fun game to play and watch. It's just becoming way, way too expensive, time consuming to follow, and overly commoditized. To me that isn't a flaw in the game, it's a flaw thrust upon the game by its masters.

Wild Card Round = Yawn*
Except for Pink doing the 10 minute lame-ass intro song/multimedia sensory overload before the Cowboys snoozer yesterday. I'm sure that convinced many non-traditional NFL viewers to stay tuned to NBC throughout the entire ugly first half.
*I didn't watch today's games. They may have been more interesting, but yesterday forced me to give up until the AFC/NFC Championships.

NE - Jets was a good game if not exciting.
Giants - Philly was exciting at the end, but not a particularly good game.

The Pink introduction makes me through up in my mouth every time.
The games are simply too damn long. Not like 20 minutes too long, an hour too long. Its just crazy how much the NFL abuses its fanbase by packing ads in ever other minute and practically nobody is complaining or at least not enough for them to stop yet. What will it take, 6 hour regulation games? I now watch NFL games only 45 minutes or so after kickoff and then fast forward through ads. But people shouldn't be forced to do that, the games should be a reasonable length.
