Absolutely insane. They set the record for most points in a half twice, scoring 97 in the first half and 104 in the second. The old record for a game was 172. One player was 21-41 from three-point range and finished with 69 points. This is just ridiculous. The most points I've ever seen (in person) put up in one half was 80 in a 129-75 Division III game (the same team just scored 140 in a 140-137 3OT win today). I thought 129 was a show to see, this must have been something else.

Word is they had excellent point guards who could really get the ball into their big guys.

This is just beyond description.
Back a dozen or so years ago, there was a guy from right here in Gainesville who played at Bucholz High School. He went on to college, and I want to say it was "American University." I have no idea where that is, but they were the hoops equivalent of the "run and shoot" Houston Cougar offense but to an even greater extreme. It was basically full speed street ball. In any case, the point is that Kevin Bradshaw led the Nation in scoring average. Now he was a dang good player, but not quite that good. The team would score something like 120 points a game ... but if I remember correctly, they finished under .500 and would give up 130.
Now, 201-78 is certainly not the same thing ... but still. To score anything like that you pretty much have to go full speed every single secong.
Regardless ... scoring a tad over a 2 and a 3 per minute is somewhat impressive.

2 things:
--The referees must have HATED running that much.
--American is actually a few short miles UP Wisconsin Ave.

The trouble I have with this is not that one team scored 201 points, but rather they did it by scoring MORE in the second half than in the first.
At what point in the game does the coach make the decision to go for the double century mark? It had to have been a conscious effort, otherwise the Saeds and Kennys would have been in there for virtually the entire second half (even if they were, the fact that the team kept heaving--and making--threes shows that it was a determined effort to reach some arbitrary point total for the game).
It's great for the Lions of Lincoln that they had some fun and set some records, but next time, play an NCAA team at least!

I went to my kids' school basketball game last night. I didn't know anything about either team, but my daughter just made the Cheerleading squad so I went out to show support. In any case, during warmups I told my wife that our team was going to kill theirs. Just from watching them do their layup drills it was obvious. I could also tell which 2 guys on the other team were real players and pointed them out. Sure enough, those two had all 11 of their team's points at halftime. It was 43-11 at half. I don't know the final, since I left at halftime, but I do know there wasn't a miracle comeback. Apparently the second half was more of the same. 43 points in 16 minutes is a decent pace in its own right.
