There was a segment on sportscenter last night that was very touching. There is a 12 year old phenom girl golfer whose mother is terminally ill from cancer. Both of their dreams were for her to become a professional golfer, but with her mom's illness she decided to give up golf to spend all the time she could with her ailing mom. Apparently the story got out and the tournament director for this weekend's ladies tournament decided to give Dakota Dowd a sponsor's exemption for this week so that they could realize their dream while her mom is still here and healthy. I just saw that she bogeyed the last hole and finished today at 2 over. That's not too shabby for a 12 year old girl. Wouldn't it be something if she could make the cut?!

Good for her. But guess what? The LPGA, WNBA, women's soccer... they all warrant the same response: Yawn.

I goofed a bit. The paper said that she is "much" older than I thought. Apparently she turned 13 between the original story and this tournament. So she is a teenager now.
Incidentally Elvis, many of the Gorgeous Ladies were hot ... Moolah is not one of them though. Even before she turned 123 years old she wasn't exactly a looker. But I hear Mae Young was a hottie back before WWI.

I am pretty much with you on that one Buff, but I must admit that women's golf is far more tolerable with players like Sorenstam, Kris Tchetter and Michell Wie than it was when it was always she-men like Laura Davies, Juli Inkster and Beth Daniel.
