Between basketball and football seasons, I do a lot of reading for entertainment purposes. I especially prefer sports biographies. Are there any that you would recommend? I am just finishing Wilt Chamberlain's "View from Above" right now. It was pretty good, but it wasn't so much of an auto-biography as much as it was a list of Wiltisms and anecdotes, but I would still recommend it to those interested.
Last year I read "The Big O" by Oscar Robertson as well as a dark book about Joe Namath that I can't recall. Any suggestions for me? (I know I opened that door, and I am sure that I will get some not so serious replies ...)
I know that some will frown on this, but I have also read a lot of the Wrestling Biographies which have come out recently. I have read both Mick Foley books, as well as the life stories of Stone Cold, Jerry Lawler, The Hardy Boyz and of course ... Whooo, the Nature Boy Ric Flair.

Here's a couple right up your alley... not necessarily sports-related, but none the less right up your alley. The first is pretty self-explanatory, based on some of your posts around here: hifigator and HoyaTalkThe second is the new tome about Joe-a-kim Noah: The Joe-a-kim Noah StoryAnd this last one is for us HoyaTalkers who have to deal with you on what is turning out to be a daily basis: Dealing With hifigator

Believe it or not, "Juiced" by Jose Canseco wasn't all that bad...interesting, quick read... I imagine "game of shadows" is a hotseller right now too.

The correct answer is: anything not written by John Feinstein.

Great American Novel by Philip Roth is fun. The Natural is great but it bears little resemblance to the movie.
If you've never read Ball Four, you should do it. It has lost shock value, but is still fun. Anything by Bob Creamer is supposed to be very good. Heaven is a Playground by Rick Telander. Sole Influence if you've never read it, but it may turn you off college basketball.

The correct answer is: anything not written by John Feinstein. True Story... Also a true story: I actually own a copy of Feinstein's golf book "The Open", autographed by none other than the man himself. A friend of mine (who lurks Hoyatalk from time to time) bought a copy when Feinstein was doing a signing at the US Open at Olympia Fields a couple of years ago. He asked Feinstein to autograph it to me, with the inscription "Hoya Paranoia Lives!" Still one of the best gifts I ever got.

Cather in the Wry is a good suggestion. I started to check it out last year but ended up getting Who's on Third instead. Since the White Sox were in the middle of a good run, I figured it would be a good time to read up on them in case they made history. And lo and behold they did. It was a little slow moving at points but very informative since I knew very little about them. One thing I learned is that the Chicago White Stockings were not the precursor to the White Sox. Ironically the White Stockings later became the Cubs. Learn something new everyday ...
