My dad called me last night and asked me if I had heard about the trade (I hadn't). I thought I heard him say that MANNY Ramirez had been sent to the Marlins, and I thought wow. Now that would have been a deal worth talking about. This one is just another huge salary dump by the Marlins. It shows just how desperate the Marlins were to get rid of Lowell. If he can bounce back at all, this deal will be phenomenal for the Red Sox. Otherwise, it's just a great deal.

That's what I figured.
About your new signature, are people here not purposely spelling ridiculous wrong?
I thought maybe it had something to do with the redickulously gay sign that was all over the boards last year.
Imagine that, me giving too much credit to people. Won't happen again.

I thought we agreed to not jinx this...good lord man, didn't you learn anything from the Arod fiasco. The Commissioner (Peter Gammons) pretty much jinxed this already, if it's gonna be jinxed - I'm just piling on. ;D

What this thread needs is some good backhanded compliments from Borat and some Arod trashing from RDF...until that happens I won't believe this trade is really happening.

Nice deal for Red Sox and love Beckett's talent/upside for long term success--as we know he can pitch under pressure of Playoffs. Great pick up. Lowell? Who cares what he does as he is just filler and he can only help them as a pleasant surprise or just end up as a throw in to get Beckett.
On other hand, the Mets getting Delgado is not even newsworthy--it's a YAWNER if there ever was one. Why is this guy so coveted? He's a streaky hitter with some pop but a terrible defensive player--and in NL he's got to play 1B, and he's never had to perform in pressure of a Playoff race/so who knows if he can handle that type of atmosphere? Just glad Yankees didn't get involved as rumored.
To be honest, I think this is worst Offseason in terms of available talent in FA I've seen and Red Sox move was outstanding in getting a frontline potential #1 starter and someone who is far more valuable then the crap being talked about--Brian Giles? Come on, that is GARBAGE.
Need some trades to shake things up, but as a Yankee fan I'm hoping like hell that front office doesn't make moves just to make them--if there's a year where nobody can make you better, don't spend, just go with what you have. Making moves doesn't make you better, making GOOD moves does--Boston did this, Mets? Delgado will get to prove me wrong but I dont' see the great benefit in him as he's getting older and can't play defense to save his butt. Now Billy Wagner is a nice move if they land him.
My nightmare is that Yankees get Giles--that will be a bust guaranteed-- and play him and Matsui/Sheffield is not any different then what they had last year--rather see Bubba Crosby in CF. Also, for the love of Baseball Gods, DO NOT bring back Bernie "Berned Out" Williams. Torre will play him way too much, and we'll have to hear all of these friggin "Bring Back Bernie" chants and bullcrap sentiment that comes with him hitting .238 and popping up pitches that should be lined around park.
Oh, and on request, A-Rotten is now my chief reason that Vlad Guerrero stunk in Playoffs--that Pepsi ad they did rubbed A-Rotten's "magic" on Vlad. (Not really but had to keep the "fans" of my A-Rotten rants happy. ;D

RDF, don't understand your negativity toward Giles. I agree that he isn't a good fit for the Yankees, since he isn't a center fielder, but I think he will be an excellent fit somewhere (St. Louis, perhaps?). The guy is a professional hitter whose numbers were brought down by playing in San Diego, which is possibly the worst hitters park in the National League. Nevertheless, he still hit lots of doubles and had a high OBP. If he lands in St. Louis or Chicago, I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 25-30 home runs with 100 rbi's next season.

Giles landing on the right (meaning North) side of Chicago would be great. The problem is that for the 2-3 good years he'll give you, he'll get a 4 year contract. Is it worth it? Depends where your team is...

i am on vacation on the other side of the world...but i figured i'd chime in b/c i am jet lagged and cannot sleep. but this is costing me by the minute, so i'll keep it short.
mets deal for delgado is bad.
chisox deal for thome is worse.
beckett and lowell for 3 top prospects is a good deal i think. lowell will bounce back, and beckett is a good young pitcher. he is not the pitcher he was in the 2003 postseason, but he is a very good pitcher. then again, i said the same thing about carl pavano, so what do i know? it is possible he meets the same fate as Vazquez/Pavano/to a certain extent, Clement, the transition to the NL to AL can wreak havon on a young pitcher. he is most close to Vazquez [Expos era Vazquez anyway] of those 3 as far as his pitching style is concerned, lots of Ks, not a lot of hits against. a good pickup for the Sox...now what do to with manny?
more when i get back on 12/6.
and how the hell did the hoyas only beat jmu by 7?!!
