Apparently "journalistic reasons" encompass media politics: sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2142712I mean, come on. Is Peter Gammons no longer going to be able to vote for the Baseball HOF to preserve ESPN's journalistic integrity? Are all the sportswriters who vote in the AP poll shaming their newspapers?

Isn't the point of the polls to create rankings based on the opinions of the journalists who cover the sports? I thought that's why we had them.

Does the BCS still have the contract with ABC? As ABC and ESPN are both Disney companies, this makes sense. You cannot have people working for Disney voting on who should play in the championship that will be shown on a Disney network - that's a definate conflict of interest.

ABC is in the final year of its contract with the BCS. FOX takes over in 2007. I can see your point re: conflict of interest. However, nowhere in the article (from ESPN.com, so they can spin it whichever way they want) is the phrase "conflict of interest" used. The official reasons ESPN offers up in the article are either vague or nonsensical.
