If the Cy Young is for the best pitcher, and not the best-pitcher-in-wins-losses-and-other-statistics, I'm going with Clemens. Give that guy Carpenter's team, and he's 15-1 or some similar ungodly number.

Carpenter has been other-worldly for about 2 months now, but I voted for Clemens. While his record doesn't totally show it due to some bullpen breakdowns, he is probably having one of the best seasons by a pitcher in the live ball era. And what is he, 42? 43? Amazing doesn't begin to describe it.

I voted for Jake, because he's not getting any other votes, but honestly, you're insane if you think anyone deserves it but Clemens. The guy is otherwordly, and frankly, needs to be tested for suceptibility to Kryptonite or something.
You just may be watching the greatest pitcher of ALL TIME. And I'm not remotely kidding.

He is almost certainly the best pitcher in the post war era. Tough to compare modern pitchers to guys like Walter Johnson, since the game is so different, but he's a total freak of nature. As incredible as his success has been, the fact that he's pitched so long as a power hitter with basically no major arm troubles further confirms his freakiness.

Exactly, NYC. It is impossible to compare him to guys that played in three man rotations, pitched 300-400 IP, but almost certainly did not face the even level of competition today. Walter Johnson basically threw one pitch most of his career (and side-arm at that!). Best pitcher of his era, sure, but I just find it hard to compare when there's only one pitcher in the last 20 years who has dominated with as few as two pitches (Randy Johnson), let alone one (though Carlton was good early in his career basically only thowing FBs before he mastered his slider -- but that was the '70s).

I hate Clemens. Hate him. But what he is doing right now is really unbelievable, and he deserves the award.
