My thoughts include that this thread will be moved to the pro sports area and that the Knicks are a meer 3 forwards away from having the dreaded Marbury and 11 forwards that he doesn't pass to line up.

Yea itll go to Pro sports but no biggie...
The draft was OK. The picking of Frye and Lee makes me think that Sweets is on the outs though. Our core is really Marbury, Q, Crawford, Ariza, Lee, and Frye... This has all the makings of a fast break team, and looks very little like a half court team... Thus, I think that if Sweetney doesn't really trim down this offseason, he's on his way out over the next year.
BTW, supposedly we're not keeping Dijon, rather trading him in the Richardson/Thomas deal, and getting back the firey PG from Washington Nate Robinson... Robinson is another guy who fits with the afforementioned run-and-gun theme.
I like Lee more than a lot of other Knick fans seem to (based on their early reactions) but I think we might've been able to make a better pick at 30, maybe Andray Blatche or the other big young euro Andriuskivicius. We still need more height. We still have a very short team... Frye is 6'11 and Lee is 6'9. You can argue we have no true NBA-caliber center (Frye's sort of PFish) and thats disconcerting.
Not a bad night though... All the analysts seem to like Frye, so itll be interesting to see if he can deliver.

I don't really know what to think of Frye, I didnt see him play enough to really make a definitive judgement.
I hate the David Lee pick though. I couldn't stand him in college and Im Editeded that the Knicks picked him.

Celtics pull off another top notch draft. Yeah, they added another wing-guard to an already crowded position.

Sports Guy (or should I say, "Most Overrated Writer In Sports Guy") nearly wet himself with excitement at the C's draft. Of course, he's based his analysis solely on the USA Today and a few other publications.
Nothing like the national media NOT doing their homework.

Let's see we have Paul "Dead Man Walking" Pierce, 6th man extrordinaire Ricky Davis, an unsigned free agent Antoine Walker and Justin "little used" Reed... How is that crowded considering Pierce and/or Davis will be traded and Walker will go unsigned?

He is not a sportswriter...he writes about sports but don't confuse the two. His columns would be found in the lifestyles & arts section of a newspaper. He's funny if you just view him in that regard.

They are looking towards the future with Pierce. Also you forgot Tony Allen. Delonte West can play the 2-guard position as well.

Didn't say he was a sports writer, 'bridge. Just that he was the most overrated writer IN sports... which IS what he is "in."
He's hit or miss with me. I either find him amusing or boring as sin. Its when he goes all Boston on ya that he gets to be a bit of a bore. Of course, a lot of that has to do with living in Boston and everyone up there lapping this guy up like he's George Plimpton.

Apparently you aren't following the team because Doc Rivers has about 0% control over the future of the team. The team is run by a cyborg from the future who is disguised as Danny Ainge. Point being the "we would never trade Pierce" talk has way more to do with season ticket renewals than real strategy. I think Pierce signed his walking papers with his mental meltdown in the playoffs... As for Delonte West and Tony Allen being 2-guards...well yes, they do play there in spots, but with GP gone, Banks is the only point guard left on the roster. With that in mind, I personally see no problem with bringing in more competition at either guard spot to push the practice/development. Basically with two of the following gone: Pierce/Walker/Davis -- you are left with six young guys competing with one veteran for burn at the 1, 2 & 3: Banks, Green, West, Allen, Reed, Gomes. How is that a log jam?

Rumor has it that the Knicks are talking about dealing Sweetney for Kwame Brown. Read that sentence again. I'm currently putting on my ski mask to go kidnap Isiah Thomas before he drives the Knicks right out of existence.
Oh, and the fact that the Celtics have most of the pieces in place to be one of the best teams in the league for the next 8 years isn't doing anything good for my blood pressure either.

As far as I am concerened, and the reality is that there is a log jam. Davis, Allen, Green, West, Pierce all play the same position. 5 guys for 2 positions. That is a log jam.

Those guys aren't just competing at the 2! They all have played for considerable stretches at either the 1 or 3. The depth chart would look something like this, with questionable returners in italics. Considering Doc wants to run a Run and Gun and is very active going to the bench, building a second/third platoon, etc I don't think there is any issue whatsoever with a logjam. When I said 2 positions, I meant two (2G and SF). But essentially all 5 guys play the same position. They are all really shooting guards. They are going to have to make trades. BUT, we are talking all perimeter players here. The real problem with the C's is that their best big man last year was Antoine Walker, who is not an inside player at the PF position. Walker is gone. Gomes is a nice addition but is still a rookie and is undersized for a power forward in the NBA. Perkins and Jefferson will have to improve if they want to make a dent in the playoffs. And the C's will have to play some defense. As long as Danny Ainge at the helm, the C's are going nowhere but sideways, not backward or forward. Anytime you try to make your team horrible, and they still wind up making it to the playoffs (last year), you know Ainge doesn't know what he is doing.

You are right that they are all swing guards/forwards, but I disagree that that is a problem. The Celtics often played their best basketball when the younger smaller, faster lineup was in. It was basically a three guard lineup that just plain out hustled their opponents.
That is the direction the team is headed in and yes, I'm willing to bet that Walker is definitely gone. Payton is gone. And one or even potentially BOTH of Ricky Davis and Paul Pierce are gone by the end of next season.
As far as young talent in the middle, Al Jefferson is the brightest star amongst the upandcomers in the Atlantic East...that kid is going to be a star. So I wouldn't worry about him.
The enigma is Mark Blount. Like all Pitt players he seems to lack work ethic unless a contract is on the line.
And I can't imagine being upset about a team's play, when they made the playoffs riding on the backs of so many young players.
Yeah, sure wish we had missed the playoffs.
Let me get this straight. You are saying that Danny Ainge messed up by getting us to the playoffs? Yea, I really torn up about the fact that those young guys like West, Allen, Jefferson, Perkins et al got some great playoff experience...wish we could have been a lottery team so that they could have sat around on their asses instead.

No, I'm talking about when the year before, when Jim O'brien stepped down because Ainge was trading away the farm. It seemed like Ainge was sandbaggin the team to get better cap-wise and get a better position in the playoffs. Now granted, the East was really weak that year, but still. Ainge was blowing the team up to rebuild it, not to win games and get into the playoffs, but they still got in with a lame-duck coach in Carroll. Usually, bad GM's makes moves to make the team better, but the team winds up not making the playoffs. In Ainge's case, he was trying to make the team worst that year, and they wound up making the playoffs anyway. Funny twist of irony. But perimeter-oriented teams are only going to get so-far. Look what happened to Phoenix this year. Oh yeah, I thought Ainge was in love with Ricky Davis. Ainge consults with this brain doctor or specialist that does these tests, and apparently Ricky Davis scored the highest on these tests. I thought Ainge liked Davis. No?

His cap manuevers have worked to some degree. In that with Walker and Payton off the books and a potential trade involving Pierce would mean we could be buyers in the FA market for once, so it's a little unfair to say that Ainge's moves have been unsuccessful.
In fact, I would go so far as to say that there are many teams that would be jealous of the collection of young talent, capable role players and increasing cap room Ainge is creating.
I'm not saying he's a genius or that I agree with all of his moves -- in fact I strongly disagreed with many of them -- but in today's NBA, with so many crap GMs sinking teams with stupid contracts and busted drafts, Danny Ainge is one of the least deserving of criticism.
Of course, that's not saying much...but I still like where this team is headed as opposed to anyone else in the East right now.
