I saw on the front page that the Women's team is having a pretty good year, anyone with firsthand knowledge of what is going on?
(While following Women's Soccer isn't necessarily something I would choose to do, it is now something I must do.)

Looks like a combination of a few things, with a pretty deep and experienced team, and a few freshmen and sophomores (including the goalkeeper, Jade Higgins, who has posted 6 or 7 shutouts already on the year) who are sparking the team to be even better.
I got to meet a bunch of the women's soccer players at the beginning of this year, and there's a real spirit of teamwork and camaderie on the team, as well as a sense that, performance-wise, they're on the way up. In particular, the sophomore class has something like 8 student-athletes, and they are probably going to form a lot of this team's personality (and hopefully success) in the years to come.
Right now, the team is 9-1-1 (2-0-1 BE) with the one loss coming against Loyola (MD), and the tie against Villanova. The Nova tie was frustrating, because it came after the Hoyas led up to the 89th minute. We'll see how the season wraps up, with about 8 regular season games left, but the team has already matched their victory total from last year (9-8-1, 5-4-1 BE), so things are looking up.

7 game win streak and undefeated at home, things are looking really good so far.

Jade set the career record for most shutouts by a Hoya on Sunday. I think they have a mixture of strong senior leadership (Ashley Darcy-D, Allie Hardy-M, Shara McNeill-F) and solid underclassmen, including Jade, Brittany Berry-F and Sara Jordan-M. I also know they've had some injury problems, as Christina Araps, who normally starts at Midfielder has been hurt since the Hoya Classic as well as Alex Gargano, a Freshman Defender who started until she got hurt a few games ago.
I think one of the keys to their season has been the successful return of Darcy, who's the captain and who sat out last year with a torn up knee. She's the defensive anchor (like Jeff Curtin) and has been a major factor in their shutdown defense. ALso, the one game the team lost was when she suffered a nasty cut on her face that required stiches midway through the first period and had to leave the game.
I just wish they got the nat'l champion Irish at home this year--I think that they'd have a good shot at actually beating them this year (they fell just short last year)
