The men won their first XC meet of the year fairly easily. They outscored their opponents 17 (low score wins) to 51 to 93 to 102 to 112 to 176 in defeating American, Yale, Maryland, Millersville, and Howard, respectively. Running for the Hoyas were
1. Brian Dalpiaz 20:56 2. Matt Debole 20:56 3. Charlie Millioen 20:56 5. Andre LaBoy 21:02 6. Dan Nunn 21:05 9. Chris Esselborn 21:16 10. Rasheed Thompson 21:20 21. Brandon Bonsey 21:54 25. Alex Mason 22:19 40. Scott Bastek 23:00 44. Mike Billington 23:19
The course was 4.1 miles long. Two big surprises are Brian Dalpiaz winning the race adn Charlie Millioen finished 3rd in the same time. Brian had great promise coming out of HS, but did not run up to expectations in his first two years. They need him this year, so it was good to see him do well. Charlie is another who showed great promise in HS, so seeing him do well today was great. Also, it was good to see Matt Debole back again. I heard he was on his best behavior. There are a number of people, who did not run today, including maybe our top two runners in Fleet Hower and Bumbi. Additionally, Tommy Manning didn't run. Tommy said he wasn't in the best of shape, but would be ready in November, when it really counts. So this performance is an indication of the depth GU has this year.

The women ran well today, but ran up against #5 Michigan, who dominated (taking seven of the first eight places). The scoring was as follows: 1. Michigan 17 2. Georgetown 57 3. Maryland 73 4. West Virginia 110 5. Howard 142
Running for the Hoyas
4. Maggie Infeld 17:38 11. Natasha LaBeaud 17:58 16. Erin Henry 18:30 18. Sabine Knothe 18:31 20. Melissa Grelli 18:38 25. Nana Hanson-Hall 18:58 29. Kim Malcolm 19:37 33. Meghan O'Neil 20:37 44. Jayne Penn 22:45
The only freshman running today was Natasha LaBeaud, whom I thought would redshirt this year. So they held out people who could help them right away. A lot of the runners, who ran today are natural middle distance runners. Georgetown usually eases into a season, so this is not an indication of how well they will do. The best results were from Maggie and Natasha.

Agree w/ your assessment Nevada. The best news of the meet is probably Natasha Labeaud's performance, 20 sec behind Infeld in her first meet is pretty good.
As far as the men go, I was glad to see Dalpaiz et al do well, though the time looked pretty slow. Though I don't think GU was pushed at all by a weak field(also this may be a tough course-I don't know)

Just to follow up on the times, dalpiaz would have finished in 17th place last yr with this yrs time, while both LaBeaud and Infeld would have won last yr's race with their times. Yhe winner of the mens race last yr clocked a 19:49

That is very interesting on the times between this year's race and last years. At the front of the men's race it looked like they were doing a workout running together. We shall see what happens in the next race and the rest of the year. Natasha continues her resurgence after getting over her injuries.

Reformation, I did get a chance to see last year's results. Dalpiaz ran well there too, faster than this year's, but they did not have the competition that they did last year. Most of the others ran faster too. I think we have to consider this a fast workout.
